Triangulation and Trilateration

In this lecture we learn about triangulation and trilateration and how global positioning works. People often confuse triangulation and trilateration and if you plan to build location-based apps it's good to know the difference! In short, triangulation is about angles and trilateration is about distances. GPS positioning uses trilateration and not triangulation as you often see portrayed incorrectly in SciFi movies :-)

In this location aware mobile application development (LAMAD) course we study the background of location-aware applications including positioning and mapping. We then focus on app development using web technologies (HTML and JavaScript). Necessary server-side solutions are covered and provided via APIs. Case studies of popular apps are covered during the last part of the lecture.
