I Love this! Especially when you have natural fiber, or cotton ropes that you wouldn't or couldn't melt. I will use this for sure!

I also lost a person that had showed me how to store very long lengths of rope. He was a diver for our state police in New York. Every time I i use one of those long lengths of rope, I think of him!

Thank You Scottie. I will try this.

Definitely a useful skill to have. Old sailor technique, so there's a lot more variants of that theme on how to splice a rope.

Reminds me that a friend once told me that he and some other friends spliced a rope that went through a staircase so it became endless. Then someone went there to get the rope.

You mention of getting into the age were you start losing friends and acquaintance's and I'm right there with you. I'm about to be 44 and I'm starting to more often than ever learn of work buddies of the past or friends that haven't staid in touch passing away. It get you pondering your age, what's to come, and a time long ago. Some bug ya more than others but they all get you thinking.

My dad used to call that a back splice.  He would sit and play with knots and rope for as long as I could remember.  I sure miss him.  Thanks for the memories, Scottied67.

Cool Scottied! I used to make a loop and then braid it back in so I'd have a loop in the end ;-)

That’s what I used to do when making new blade tie-down ropes on my CH-53E. Semper Fi!!

I will watch it. The back braid you just did would work great for the lead rope. I would think you could add a bull snap b4 you started the back braid.

Oh boy, im on a roll now! Always wanted to make my own lead ropes for the horses, and leashes for the dogs. I'm sure it would be stong, right? Being that it would be pulling on the braid itself?
