Today I went magnet fishing at an old bridge and ended up finding something that was never supposed to be found! I found a gun in the river with a scratched off seal number and a ammo crate that was tied to something to hold it down!

Another fun fact, this time about nails, back in days of blacksmithing, nails were naturally magnetic after being forged out. So they could be finding eachother under water and nature takes its course and fuses them together.

Considering the gun looks like the inner barrel was removed I'm guessing the firing pin was as well, that makes me believe that the rest of it may be down there or the parts could have been swapped out. I agree it looked like that box had a weight mounted to it to sink. Could be from a cold case. To be honest they didn't seem to care.. the reaction and not taking the stuff seems odd.

That cop just didn't want to do paperwork. That gun could have been involved in a homicide, most likely was which is why the barrel was missing so they couldn't run ballistics. It's probably down there still tbh. I would have kept going and see if anything else came up.

Dude, the glove and overalls were used in a murder, along with the gun... that's what I think... those cops were a little off, why was their first thought not to take the gun and send it to a forensics lab to raise the serial number and check it against open or unsolved cases? It seemed like that didn't cross their mind until you brought it up!

The holes were drilled so it could sink. Them clothes were used to stay clean. Definitely crazy find.

It is pretty simple procedure to find out what is the scratched serial number on the gun. Expert shouldn't have much problem with that, if it wasn't done super deep.

I'm surprised they didn't want the gun and what is clearly the clothes the gun owner was wearing when they shot someone! Great investigation skills there deputy!!!

ahhhh I am VERY sure that a firearm working or not with the serial number ground off is a straight felony! example after you start on an 80% frame to build it with even one hole done by you past that '80%' done right...its a gun to the eyes and laws of ATF!
