my Vulgaris doesn't spread as much as yours. Mine is 18 months old transplanted from a pencil sized stalk and it has about 10 culms reaching to 30 feet tall and only about 2.5 or 3 feet wide footprint now. Where I collect it from it comes up between large older culms and stays very compact like it has for over 40 years. So yours looks a little spready to me. Some of mine is over 4" diam and 75 feet tall. Worm tea and worm compost is bamboos favorite food. I now have D Giganteus and D Sinicus and a few Aspers B Polymorpha and B Longinternode..

I used the culm cuttings with 4 and 2 bulky nodes, i planted them in soil with compost, in just 4 days small leaves started to appear. :)

the cuttings do take root in water, but they need well developed soils to grow.
