I love how quickly the civilization simulations stopped being actual experiments and just became glorified team deathmatches

I've been extremely burnt out this year when it comes to making content. I always wanted to be a YouTuber having fun like the Yogscast or Stampy but to be a proper YouTuber now, you need to be a CEO who hires loads of people to automate production and doesn't actually make the content themselves. I don't want to make clickbait kids videos that feel like they're made by a content farm, but the young audience don't care.
Of course whenever something new does well there will be many copycats who just want money, however I hope that the people who are genuinely passionate about making good honest content will rise to the top as they will be able to innovate and stay ahead of their clones.

A guy pointing out the issues with minecraft youtube. I can respect that.

I recently really got into Mr Beardstone's Create series because it's a traditional let's play, with a modpack to spice things up. And he actually shows his mistakes, his thought processes, how he plans projects and is in general just pleasant to listen tonand watch. Like i said, his videos are mostly traditional but nowadays it actually feels fresh because it's honest gameplay

This isn't just a problem with the content creators; it is a problem with servers too. People will join a server and then complain if there is anything different about it, pushing server owners into installing the same plugins and having similar formats.

Recommendation; The Librarian's From The Fog series. It's basically survival with a twist, but he starts off having not played the game in a long time and discovering things from updates he missed, as well as inventing his own narrative as he goes. It's refreshing and really feels like a good old let's play from 2011 despite being in Modern minecraft.

Man gotta love how etho has stayed true to himself, I’ve been watching the guy for like 10 years or something and still no “make sure to like and subscribe “ from him, no sponsor ads, no over the top reactions, no ads at all actually now that I think of it. Crazy to think that after all this time it’s like im still in 2013 watching my favorite creator push the bounds of Minecraft and continue to innovate and blow my mind

Its crazy how narrow the popular content is for how broad minecraft is. Where are the story driven lets plays? Where are friends just playing around with games they made? (thats why you should continue the Evolution series, very entertaining.

I totally agree with a lot of this, However I will say those old style fun Minecraft videos do still exist out there. Unfortunately its never pushed by youtube and is fairly hard to find.

Old youtube content was just as repetitive: Prison minecraft rp, hunger games minecraft, lucky block minecraft, minecraft mob battles
Personally, I liked lucky blocks and mob battles but I knew even then that the content was trash

This is why i love ForgeLabs' content. He sticks to the boring 100 days in hardcore formula, except he truns them all into two hour documentaries where each and every important event, such as him dying, saying "nope you never saw that yup" and then loading into a backup of the world, aswell as an instance where he disintegrated 8 diamonds cause of the fact the footage was corrupted. He uses the 100 days format but makes it very clear that the challenges turn his life into a living hell.

It's not just minecraft youtubers, It's every community ever. It's pretty sad seeing youtube like this but I think we wouldn't see anything original in awhile.

The Civilisation Video Formula:
- 100-1000 players
- 5 nations
- watch them be peaceful
- instigate a war
- make the thumbnail have the overdone peace/war style

I don't make Minecraft content anymore and this is a huge part of what pushed me away. I tried my best to make fresh content with the cinematic angles inspired from people like lowresbones, but at the end of the day people just don't watch that content as much.

There was some viewership, maybe 30-40k on average for a survival video I would do, and while they were fun to make that is straight up impossible to live on. I saw the writing on the wall and knew I had to jump ship eventually, if for no other reason then my personal sanity of wanting to build a brand independent of the success of a game.

That being said, I'm glad you mentioned some of the OG creators like Ethos and people still pushing the envelope outside of the traditional hyper edited MC styles we all love to hate. And I hope for the sake of the game, because I do still love Minecraft, that there is a resurgence of fresh content and that there can be a new generation of creators that are excited to make content, while also making lots of money. After all, we all love to make a good living!

Great video, keep up the good work.

Getting paid for what you love doing is truly a beautiful thing, but you can always lose the soul in your art if money becomes the priority. I am so glad you brought this up Ryan! You truly are an inspiration my guy! I hope we get a renaissance of better things soon.

I remember when I first came across the civilization format. It was simple, what if the world changed into Minecraft? It was a really fun idea, but now it’s devolved into… just bigger smps where each smp is a different island.

we need more youtubers like Ryan or Dahomey, interesting topics and original content

I feel like the YouTube algorithm could definitely use a reprogramming in order to avoid these types of problems, not just for Minecraft content, but for content all across the platform. Instead of prioritizing only a few good trends until they aren't in style anymore, they should basically do the opposite. Send out videos that are unique to more people than videos that follow similar styles. Only linger on certain type of video trends for short time before phasing them out, even if they would be super successful anyways. This way people are forced to keep reimagining what they create, putting their heart and soul into what they make because it will be rewarded to them 10-fold. Maybe the algorithm could also push out videos that were popular a long time ago on a person's channel so good ideas aren't forgotten.

This is the main reason that i slowly started watching less and less minecraft, it became all the same thing, and this is the reason that i absolutly love your content its new and passionate, Hi Ryan

What I have noticed is content like this “why ‘such and such repetitive viral videos’ are popular and why they should stop” getting more viral themselves, maybe this will become the next trend lol
