Spiritual leaders in local churches are to shepherd the Lord's flock faithfully, exemplifying the great Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul certainly felt it very important that each person in leadership, in a church body, be the best for the job. As we see in what he wrote to Timothy, in I Timothy 3:1-7, there were requirements set in place for anyone who would be an overseer, that he must be emotionally stable, a man of character, and spiritually mature. Whether a king or priest of the Old Testament or an overseer of the New Testament, God declares, "Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!" (Jeremiah 23:1), but there is nothing more wonderful than when the person clearly fits Jeremiah 3:15, where God says, "I will give you shepherds who are loyal to Me [according to My heart], and they will shepherd you with knowledge and skill." Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.

Too many pastors are supported economically but are not in the Word like they should be. Shallow sermons lean on Scripture reveal a man who is not in the Word like he should be.
