Just did my first wax based on oz’s latest suggestion 25:1 ratio. Putting it on today, can’t wait!

I love how this dude develops zero friction lubes in his mom's basement but Mobil, Valvoline, Castrol with million-dollar R&D budgets yearly cannot do it. The chemical engineers and scientists must be just lazy.

Their claim is that wear rate (less wear) equals less friction, which isn't always true. A continuous oil bath chain would exhibit very low wear, yet high friction through the oil. The ONLY way to measure which lube is the fastest, is to measure power. Which today's power meters are not accurate enough to measure.

Imagine, Zero Friction Cycling Lube + absoluteBlack OSPW + Tarmac SL8 = -100 friction. Never need a new chain!

Parafin wax fumes aren't particularly toxic. Saying so makes it sound more personal than professional. Chain wax is superior....but a complete pain in the ass. It's more of a matter of what is your time worth. Most people would rather just replace chains more often.

I've offered chain wax services. Clean prep, wax, rewax. I don't offer chains the customer brings theirs or a new one to wax. Most of the cost is just personal time (at least for me). But what I do is encourage people to DIY so they won't need me for rewaxing etc. I'm fine getting them started but its such an easy process once the wax is prepped it's better for everyone to DIY than keep them in my pocket forever. This is one job that's not a full time career but a side hustle to get more people using a great lubricant.

Use Squirt except on dirty wet Winter salted roads. Tru-Tensions Tungsten Wet Lube is good but pricey so trying Juice Lubes Viking Juice on my commute bike, first impressions good. Avoid thick oil lubes as they attract contaminants and become a black mess. The key thing is keep chain cleanish, lubed just enough and check chain for stretch regularly, I replace at .50. Use 7 speed YBN chains on my commute bike, 9 speed KMC on rest, fully nickel plated.

I will NEVER understand the time/effort/money spent trying to extend the life of something that's designed to be easily replaced and costs (12 speed Shimano Dura Ace) less than $100! Are these people so bored that faffing around with chain wax is interesting to them? I'd rather be riding my bike than fooling around with it in a workstand! The Friction Fiction guy is the Wizard of OZ of the wax-cult.

And it's not even that for me, it's how much your paying for a processes that will last at the best friction reduction, for about 50km and as a whole, reduce chain friction to any degree for maybe 300km, then your what, back to the start with a nornal chain..

squirt is great. it was a revelation to me just how little you have to bother with your chain using it. virtually cleans itself. i agree with all the wax melting nonsense. silca had an hour long podcast on chain lube. it's like get a life, how anal. it's embarrassing how people get into all this ridiculous crap, when as you say cycling is supposed to be enjoyable and not some faffy activity. do people get excited by this crap, like oversized chain pulleys it's utterly ridiculous. simple, fun activity. spend more time on other more important things. i'm guessing it's not real cyclists that are into all this shit. it's like put the lube on and go ride ffs

overpriced stuff is sold by great marketing...sadly many equally good cheaper products who can't afford marketing miss out.
