How to Survive a Sextortion Email Campaign: Hackers tried to blackmail me! Here's what I did...
Показать описание
Hackers dug up one of my old passwords and tried to use it to blackmail me out of thousands of dollars! This email was part of a highly lucrative sextortion email campaign. It came from what appeared to be my personal email address and had one of my old passwords in the subject line. Watch this video to see how I handled the situation:
Here are 3 key DON’Ts, if you receive an email like the one I got:
1. DON’T RESPOND
2. DON’T CLICK ANY LINKS OR ATTACHMENTS IN THE EMAIL.
They likely contain a malware payload that could land you in real trouble.
3. DON’T PAY.
The most likely outcome is that you’ll never hear from them again.
Take this opportunity to do the following:
1. Change and randomize your commonly used passwords. It’s easier than you think with LastPass (see my affiliate link below)!
2. Enable 2-factor, at minimum, on all email, social media, and banking accounts
3. Talk to your friends and family about your sextortion experience and what you confidently did about it. Who knows, they may have gone through the same thing and have suffered in silence.
