Lead Poisoning is REAL

Lead is not a heavy metal you want inside you or your kids.
We did a whole video on the topic. The link is below.

The amount of misunderstanding and misinformation is staggering.

Key facts
-Lead is a cumulative toxicant that affects multiple body systems and is particularly harmful to young children.

-Lead in the body is distributed to the brain, liver, kidney and bones. It is stored in the teeth and bones, where it accumulates over time. Human exposure is usually assessed through the measurement of lead in blood.

-Lead in bone is released into blood during pregnancy and becomes a source of exposure to the developing fetus.

-There is no level of exposure to lead that is known to be without harmful effects.

-Lead exposure is preventable.

Once lead enters the body, it is distributed to organs such as the brain, kidneys, liver and bones. The body stores lead in the teeth and bones, where it accumulates over time.

Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer profound and permanent adverse health impacts, particularly on the development of the brain and nervous system. Lead also causes long-term harm in adults, including increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney damage. Exposure of pregnant women to high levels of lead can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and low birth weight.

Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead poisoning because they absorb 4–5 times as much ingested lead as adults from a given source.

Don't mess you or your family up in the endeavor to protect them.
There is no safe or healthy level of lead in the human body.

I'm a plumber. Keeping my fingers out of my mouth and not biting nails is something I practice.

And FYI, you can get lead free practice ammo. Doesn’t fix the lead in the floor and around you, but it does help.

I trained with a guy who got lead poisoning from working at a range.
Trust me, you don't want it.

I work for a company in the Midwest, U.S.A. that manufacturers lead acid batteries of many types. All employees are required to wear either a 3M half-face respirator or a PAPR in departments where high levels of lead are known to exist. Additionally, at the end of every shift we are required to shower, washing ourselves with a product called D-Lead. Lastly, at scheduled times we are required to have our blood drawn and tested for lead level. I'll tell you that I once worked in a department that has a high lead level. I moved to a different department that has a very low lead level. When I transferred in August of 2022 my blood lead level (BLL) was 9.40 micrograms per deciliter. It's currently July 7, 2023 and my BLL has only dropped 3 micrograms per deciliter. Getting lead out of your blood is difficult, so take precautions.

Super important. I am a chimney sweep. Creosote is 7 times worse on the skin than in the lungs, and its bad in the lungs. Very crucial mindset you emphasize. Refreshing.

Man this was a good time. Each one of them did awesome and shoutout to Steve for being one hell of a host. He set each one of them up perfectly and brought each of em out well.

Additionally, I just purchased Hornady Critical Defense ammo because it has a polymer-filled tip essentially sealing the lead in. Funny you post this a day after I specially decided to get these special hollow points to protect and reduce myself and family from lead poisoning. I also wash my clothes as soon as I get home from the range! Touché!

Correction. Lead does just fine inside our body. Our body however does not do well when lead enters it.

Shouldn't a respirator also be used for the lead bearing dust in the air?

I got payed to remove lead paint years ago and we dressed up like hazmat dudes messing with that stuff and required to have a blood test every few months and if level too high we got pulled out of that job .

I definitely do not do ANY of that 😅
I’ve never had a problem — that I at least have noticed — and I do not wear gloves or wash my hands like a wild man or change my shoes or wash clothes separately.

I even have a rifle that I shoot JSP ammo out of (exposed lead/half jacket) and I never worry about it.

Maybe you should, but I don’t. Not at all.

Sounds pretty gay. I guess I get it if you’re there 40+ hours a week but 🤷🏼‍♂️
