Amfissa’s Carnival Parade is one of the most exciting events in Phocis Prefecture, filling the streets with colorful costumes, lively music, and endless fun! 🎊🕺💃

Locals and visitors create impressive handmade floats, giant puppets, and creative masks 🎭, while dance groups bring the town to life with energetic performances! 🥳 The parade moves through the streets, ending in Isaiah Square, where the party continues with live music, dancing, and fireworks! 🎆

🎃 Is Apokries (Απόκριες, in greek) the Greek Halloween?
In some ways, Apokries is like Greece’s version of Halloween, people dress up in costumes, enjoy parties, and have fun in the streets. However, there’s no trick-or-treating! 🚫🍬 Instead, the focus is on public celebrations, parades, and feasts, all rooted in ancient Dionysian traditions 🍷, which celebrated laughter, transformation, and the joy of life!

Apokries leads up to Clean Monday ("Kathara Deftera", Καθαρά Δευτέρα in greek), which marks the beginning of Lent in the Orthodox Christian tradition. So, while it’s a time of crazy fun, it’s also connected to deeper cultural and religious traditions.
