Can we stop and talk about that opening sequence more? The wind blowing through the theater and turning it from old run down black and white to brand new beautiful and bright colors while that iconic overture plays is breathtaking. That scene is a cinematic masterpiece and it gives me chills every time.

I don't care if people don't like this movie, I love it. The costumes, the cinematography, the music, the chemistry between the three leads - chef's kiss!

The fact that Emmy was only like 17 at the time is so crazy to me still😩💕

I love that Hannah points out the extreme creepiness (stalking, grooming, crossing boundaries, etc.) while also teaching us a lot about the vocals, as well as the iconic fashion.

Meg walking down that creepy gross hallway in her pointe shoes is just the perfect amount of commitment to her role as ballerina 😂

If I recall correctly, Christine's eyeshadow getting darker by the end of Phantom of the Opera and then into Music of the Night was actually purposeful! I believe it was to show how she's falling into the world of the Phantom, changing from her usual innocent nature (the light makeup) into a darker version of herself as she listens to his words and embraces them (the dark makeup)!

13:26. In the book The Phantom Of The Opera, Christine thought that the Phantom was the Angel of Music her dad told her about as a child, and that her dad sent this Angel to her in the afterlife.

Yess, Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo from the 25th anniversary are my favourite Christine and Phantom duo. Their vocals are beyond amazing

I almost didn't watch the video because I was afraid of the backlash Gerald Butler would receive (like he always does in this role), but I was so happy to see him get recognition for how much work he put in. 🥺
But for real, the Phantom was my ultimate "No, I can fix him, really I can."
One of my core memories is when I watched this one time with my older sister and her (now douche ex) boyfriend and we each took a part in the last song and God I know we must have sounded awful, but it was so much fun.

The best way I was described the Phantom of the Opera as, is that is not a sweeping love story but a cautionary ghost story. Everyone in the Opera House are figurative ghosts; they are only active at night, singing haunting songs, can never really leave, etc. And Christine must decide if she wants to pretend/sing/act in this gilded cage where everyone wears a mask, or if she wants to leave and live her own life.

THANK YOU for praising Gerard Butler's voice and performance. It drives me crazy how much people hate on his voice in this movie. I'm sure people are just disappointed that they didn't cast someone with more of a strong theatre background, but the work he put in absolutely shows. I agree so much with what you said about how he's putting the character first. I think the theatricality of that alone aligns so well with the Phantom's character and is the reason Gerard's performance is so strong overall.

Her dress in Think of Me actually looks exactly like a dress that Empress Sissy of Austria famously wore! The stars in the hair as well! Not entirely sure why they chose that for this movie, but it's really beautiful

I've always actually liked Patrick Wilson's voice in this film. It has a soft, sweet quality that I think really fits his character, since he's supposed to be sort of a safe haven for Christine in all this chaos. I personally prefer the movie version of "All I Ask of You" compared to stage versions, even though those performers are amazing, just because both of their voices are much gentler here and I think it's fitting for the song.

When I was in 6th grade, my chorus teacher put this movie on for us to watch.
My life was forever changed.

13:35 Honestly, I don't think that she believes the voice is her father's. I think she believes it's an ANGEL that her father sent.

fun fact #3: the actor who played Christine's father in this movie, is actually Ramin Karimloo ! at the time of the movie shooting, he was playing Raul on the stage production... and eventually he begin to play the Phantom too (he's my favorite ever)... also Ramin originated the role of the Phantom in the sequence, Love Never Dies...

Love love love the props you gave Gerard. I love this movie, have since I was a kid, and it’s such an ick hearing people shit on his performance. Movies need actors and while his voice isn’t perfect, it’s a great overall phantom performance that has better ACTING than most phantoms I’ve seen, including on Broadway.

There’s no denying that Carlotta is a great singer but she’s been the lead soprano for many seasons and she has a reputation in the company for being the ultimate diva and many owners and cast have probably been on the receiving end of her sharp tongue. When Christine takes over it’s a fresh new way of performance and interests the audience. The cleaners weren’t insinuating that she couldn’t sing, more like her way of singing is exaggerated and over dramatic. That being said she doesn’t deserve to be constantly on the receiving end of nearly losing her life or being badly injured by the Phantom’s shenanigans.

Past the point of No Return is such an underrated song in the show and a guilty pleasure. It’s a mixture of danger yet so sensual and I wouldn’t be surprised if people don’t get hot under the collar before the illusion is shattered! 🥵

I understand why the phantoms disfigurement has less of an impact in this film because in the show it needs to be able to be seen at the back of the auditorium but we can see it close up here which shows that even a slight difference to others can deny you kindness and love 😞

7:03 she looks like an angel princess bc the dress and hair and entire look is based on an iconic painting of Empress Elizabeth "Sisi" of Austria! I have some problems with the use of this outfit here (in the play within a play she's supposed to be playing a character in Carthage during the Punic Wars, not an 19th century european empress) but it IS absolutely gorgeous

Christine is the OG Daddy Issues Girl. Like, we go from "Yeah, my vocal teacher is the ghost of my dead father, I'm pretty sure" to Erik straight-up feeling her up and she is into it. This movie is beyond OTT and I love it for that! Special shoutout to the bizarre automaton he has, too. That is serving big Build-a-Waifu vibes. I'm here for it.
