Zack Snyder shares details of Rebel Moon director's cut

Zack Snyder's new two-part Netflix movie Rebel Moon is a Star Wars-alike movie with epic ambitions on the scale of its forerunner. But one thing that sets it apart from George Lucas's space opera is an R-rated director's cut.

Rebel Moon premieres on Netflix in the US on 21 December and in the UK on 22 December.

They don’t want to announce it yet because they don’t want to strip steam from the release of Part II. But after the first couple weeks of release I’m sure we’ll get something. Best part is they’re releasing together on the same day. 3+ hr cuts of both films. I’m excited to see it the way it’s intended & I’m sure, even if it isn’t perfect, it’s going to feel more fleshed out & establish toss world a lot more than what we got. Snyder never disappoints with his Directors Cuts.

The PG13 was OK. Not Snyder's best (and with a few jarringly dumb moments), but still entertaining... but I couldn't escape the feeling it was neutered, the action clipped. I remain genuinely hopeful the R-Rated Cut is as violent as he says, because the movie needed that edge. I wanted Heavy Metal meets Star Wars. And it sounds like we may yet get it.

Considering that Snyder was given total creative freedom for this one, there's no reason for a director's cut. Especially since it wasn't given a major theatrical release, making it very risk-free, commercially speaking. It's basically saying that the audience is wasting their time with the version that's currently available on Netflix.
