Three astronauts reached the International Space Station on Wednesday using a fast-track maneuver for the first time to reach the orbiting outpost in just three hours.

The astronauts, NASA's Kate Rubins along with Russian space agency Roscosmos' Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, lifted off from the Baikonur space launch facility in Kazakhstan.

The astronauts used a two-orbit approach and were able to dock with the space station in half the time it normally takes to reach the station. The team will stay on the station for six months.

I love this. I got a beautiful screenshot of Kate Rubin with the whole crew together facing the camera after they came in through the hatch. In the midst of all the drama that is taking place in this world, that moment provided a sense of peace.

Still an amazing site to behold. So many things have to go right to make these liftoffs happen.

The Soyuz spacecraft flew to the ISS in 3 hours, and the SpaceX Crew Dragon in 19 hours.

Why fly so fast? Firstly, it will make flights cheaper - there will be no need for the work of several dozen specialists who do not crawl out for days from the Flight Control Center. In addition, it will benefit the astronauts - getting used to weightlessness is much better to endure in the spacious compartments of the ISS than in a cramped spacecraft, but even this is not the main thing.

The main thing is that this method of flying will be useful in the near future, when new orbital stations appear. And if now cosmonauts have nowhere to wait for help, then in the near future it will be possible to create an emergency rocket, requiring only refueling and calculation. And within a few hours, specialists can arrive at the orbital station to provide assistance .

Russia hater-Obama said Russia was no more than a gas station, an underdeveloped country. The Soviet Union gave Russia a great technological headstart.

Why US even bothers using this piece of junk when they have their own state of the art Space X rockets.
