50 First Dates is actually a Horror Film

The film "50 First Dates" is often refered to as a comedy or a romance film (or romcom) but what if I told you it is actually a horror film? In this video we will go over how the film doesnt depict the loving and budding romance that some think and that this is actually a manipulative and frightening relationship from Lucy's perspective.

Cut through the fake romance and lets investigate this stalker pretending to court someone as Henry actively uses Lucy's disabilities against her. Once you view this video you will never see the movie the same way every again, and the ending implications are far reaching and terror inducing.

Some think Henry's tapes for Lucy are romantic but soon you will see it is nothing more than a tape straight from Jigsaw in "Saw".

Its funny because redoing a version of this movie entirely from Lucy's perspective would be a fantastic phsycological thriller.
It even would have made a great genre jumping sequel.

I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to wake up far from home, with a stranger and pregnant. She's happiest on the days they meet, but he should accept that that's all can have with her.

Waking up one day 9 months pregnant sounds horrifying. Realistically she’d have been high risk for a miscarriage or other complications simply from the stress of several information bombs being dropped on her every day.

Every Adam Sandler movie is just him getting the girl he really shouldn’t be getting based on the character’s personality.

It would be interesting seeing this movie remade as a horror film

This is exactly how I always felt about this movie. Particularly the ending with her waking up in the arctic not knowing where she is and that she has kinds and a husband. I’m so glad there are other people out there who feel the same way. Even if we never get to meet, it’s good to know that there are men, who see it as exploiting as I did.
Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏🙏

It is crazy when you think that a normal person can break up with someone at any point in the relationship. But she now is beholden to his whims if they stay together now

I'd hate to be pregnant on a ship. What if she needed more care? And it's freezing cold too? Ugh.

One of the reactions I had for the ending was how their children would feel that they have to keep reminding their mum who they are. Instead of having a mum knowing them, nurturing them, now they have to be ok having to build a relationship with their mum. This would be another kind of trauma that they have to deal with when they grow older.

Not to mention that every pregnancy for her every day would be a daily stress...

Thanks for analysing this. I watched this knowing that it's entertainment, having qns so having someone discussing it against reality is good.

My wife has DID. Neither of us knew this when we got married, so when her other personalities started to emerge and admit who they were, I was fully prepared to accept that my relationship with them might not be the marital one I was accustomed to. I let each "person" I met know that I loved all of them and wanted to support them however they needed.

Life with her has not always been easy, but it would have been SO much harder if I had clutched to my idea of what our relationship was.

The ending of this movie has always fucked me up

The waking up pregnant is terrifying, but can we talk about how he makes the tape every day? She just has to trust what this stranger tells her every day to be true. She's literally a hostage

I was 15 when I watched this movie and I was HORRIFIED! I couldn't stop thinking about it for an entire week, just imagining how terrifyingly awful it would be to wake up one day to find out I'm several months pregnant! And then that I'm married to a stranger, WTF! And worst of all, that it was all portrayed as cute and romantic! I just couldn't believe it. I never stopped thinking about this movie and I'm SO GLAD to see someone else saying this too! 20 years later, it's even more terrifying because I know the exact type of men who would do this. Men who prey on women in vulnerable situations because they're easier to manipulate into situations they would never choose for themselves and that actively hurt them

I imagine waking up one day, I’m sick, I feel off, I throw up. I’m worried, why am I sick? Nothing has changed and yet I spend the rest of the day/evening stressing and throwing up while unable to understand why. Until a stranger comes up to me, and explains to me I am pregnant with his child. My father is gone, my brother is gone. Everything I’ve ever known is gone and I am thrust into a world having no idea how I ended up here and now I am pregnant. I go to sleep, and I wake up everyday to experience that fear, confusion and physical sickness as I grow bigger and my pregnancy is advancing. To think this is the life our main “hero” has inflicted on Lucy until the baby is born. Imagine waking up in labor with no idea what is happening and then having to relive that for the entirety of the child’s life. That as a woman is a fear I could not fathom. My god, Adam Sandler knows how to make a horror movie.

i wish more men would speak on these themes in movies and see them for what they are.

My mom had a stroke when I was 11. She didn’t remember me when we first went to visit her in the hospital. It was so heartbreaking. 😢

I am disabled and was trapped in a similar relationship. To this day, I still don't feel like people understand the enormous power differential that this kind of set up can involve. It is absolutely a horror movie scenario, but one that most people want to romanticize. I really appreciate you making this video and explaining it so plainly why this is so abusive and wrong.

Thank you for this video. This is why those of us with disabilities, or other ailments can’t understand why we feel so abused like we are living in a horror film. It’s because the people from the outside looking in, see it as a rom com. It’s so hard to explain abuse to people who refuse to see it.

I didn't like how they portrayed the Lucy character because short term memory disability doesn't work like that. People with short term memory issues are able to make long term memories, just over a longer period of time. I wish the filmmakers had portrayed the character in a more realistic way. Also, people with disabilities in movies are often portrayed as child-like which is kind of how society views people with disabilities. I have yet to see disabilities in movies portrayed in a realistic, positive and respectful way.

Hey, as someone with dissociative amnesia, I want to thank you for making this review, and thank you for saying that people with disabilities shouldn't have to settle. I just got out of a really bad relationship where he, like Adam's character, initially presented himself as the perfect guy, but before long was getting angry with me for forgetting things and even calling me crazy. All I can say for people who are in this situation is this: we have to vet people who are interested in us. Don't just take them at their word, because even well-meaning people can sign up for something that is way over their heads.
