"Or as some people like to call it, a controller." lolol That was awesome man

Wonderful, as usual.
The reason why 360 pads and maybe some third-party ones are listed under generic is probably very simple
Most tend to not only copy the 360's layout, but also function. Not to mention, it was the first to introduce
XInput and it's API if I'm not mistaken. So unless you're using something very old, XInput it is

Top notch tutorial, bro /sarcasm.

"Enter into your kernel config" with no instructions/commands given to do that, not even in the description. It's just magically open. Did he open it from Steam? It seems possible based on the... non-transition. Oh, and you finally exit near 3:19 and it goes back to your shell, where it looks like you executed several commands as root. Is kernel config the same program in any distro? Is Gentoo the only distro that has those inputs disabled by default? Do you need to install Steam for it to actually work? No answers, unless it's after the fact.

This seems to only be applicable to Steam. Why bother addressing Wine or GNU/Linux without Steam? Who would ever try to game on GNU/Linux without Steam? Steam isn't in the title because it's obvious everyone uses Steam, just like everyone uses Gentoo and knows EXACTLY what they're doing mucking around in the kernel config! It's not like messing with crap like that could brick your system. No instructions needed! Yet these same people who are comfortable mucking with the kernel are also INCAPABLE of ticking a few checkboxes in the Steam settings UI.

*Sarcastic slow clap* Thanks, dude. You're an absolute lifesaver to people who already know what to do and don't need a tutorial. Fan-fkg-tastic. Do you work for The Verge?

The generic controller support setting is probably for most controllers. Because many games don't recognize what type of controller gets used. They just deal with button and axes ids or basically expect the layout to be the same as an xbox controller. So the specialized support will probably help some games to for adjusting hints which button should be pressed exactly... for example "Press the X button." for all controllers would cause major confusion.

I found configuring gamepads (specifically dualshock 3) much easier on linux systems. Probably one of the only things I found easier when it comes to gaming. Not that everything else was much harder but still.

Thank you very much. This helped me fix missing inputs issue

I've managed to get pretty much every game I wanted running on linux. The only problem i faced was the huge performance difference windows vs linux version. This difference of performance makes a few games basically unplayable on linux.

One of the few people who can explain something in such a way that I A) know how to accomplish a task and B) know *why* this is working. Thank you dude you've made the transition to linux smooth and knowledgable for I and thousands of others <3

On LFS, had a kernel option turned off which was Joystick support. I don't have a XBOX gamepad, but I have Nintendo Switch ones, so I added the hid_nintendo option. Mainly checked this to see if I needed a specific X driver or if libinput and libevdev was enough.

also don't forget that you could control your game any way you want, steam supports motion controls, but it's up to the game to support mouse and controller movement at the same time.

Pressing r1 on both the controllers I've tryed just forces the curser upwards forever

This would work on the Steam deck if the device recognizes a USB controller but does not allow it to be used(?)

Or as "some people" call it and controller - you mean normal people ;-)

I know this video is from 3 years ago but if anyone knows how to make it work with an xbox360 controller it would be very helpful!
my gentoo with a joystick supported kernel (including everything related to xbox modules) is not recognizing my controller (wired)

also, for games on lutris you really should try Kozec's SC-controller, also works with ps4 controller. It actually replaced steam input on linux because i wasn't using any custom SC-API config except for American/Euro Truck Simulator.

Basically it's a good GLOSC for linux, and my guess is it is better than glosc

It annoys me that I can't use my Series X controller on Linux wirelessly without faffing with third-party software, and it especially annoys me when I'm using Linux distros like Batocera which don't really work with stuff like that.
