If you need to burn a copy of a DVD or CD, you can use a free application that comes pre-installed on every Mac, called Disk Utility.

I was confused by all the YouTube copy demos until I tried this way. Many thanks for cutting through the confusion created by the others.

May be relevant in 2025 but with a caveat: Disk Utility no longer has the "Burn" button since Apple had decided to simplify the process. The "Burn" button was moved to Finder, so all we have to do is 1) insert a blank CD, 2) open Finder to locate the ISO image file (CDR files won't produce a playable disc!), 3) right-click on the file and click "Burn to Disc.." (that appears towards the bottom).

Unfortunately, my 24 inch M1 iMac isn't recognising the DVD read / writer I have.

Why does my MacOS Disk Utility look different from yours? How old is your MacOS?
