Fun fact: The original Jekyll and Hyde novel was a lot more of a mystery novel then a horror novel. Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde being the same person was actually a big twist that wasn't revealed until the end of the story.

I swear, this one scene scared me to death when I was a kid. But other than that, The Pagemaster was one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid, and to this day, it’s still one of my favorites.

This is a more accurate representation of Mr. Hyde than most recent movies that have him as hulking behemoth. In the book his described as a small, twisted man who seems to radiate hatred and madness.

1:47 This shot stands out to me as one of the most brilliantly done of any animation. It instantly burns itself and the horror into your mind. How many of you still vividly remember that candle falling past him all these years later?

I know it’s supposed to be freaky, but i loved this scene as a kid. The color change to the dark green and his voice just stuck with me in my memories, I’m so glad i looked this movie up

Ah yes, The Pagemaster. One of those movies I know I’ve watched but can’t remember a single thing about it.

You know when you can look at a scene from a supposed “kids movie” and just *KNOW* that it traumatized someone. Yeah this is one of those scenes.

The plot twist is that was actually just an appletini, Jekyl is just a very violent drunk and a teetotaler.

I believe and thank this movie for why I never get rid of a single book I ever get. It’s honestly brilliant and beautifully metaphorical for what books do for us. They help us connect to those parts of ourselves.

To tell the truth, I had no idea that the legendary Leonard Nimoy (RIP) voiced Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde in this animated movie until I did some research about the movie many years later.

Horror yelling "Sanctuary!" might be a reference to The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
I also think even his design is based on Quasimodo.

This is, without a doubt, the scariest version of Mr Hyde I've ever seen, even after finally reading the book and seeing other IPs adapting the story. The sinister laugh, *that* jumpscare, the scene with him hanging from the chandelier as he tries to take Horror down with him, he ended up representing the horror genre in the best way possible, even though the original novel could hardly be considered a horror novel. This is a version of Mr Hyde that scares me, even as an adult.

This was by far my only favourite scene in the movie, the way its composited and shot always stood out to me. I'm surprised they never did a animated Jekyll and Hyde film with the same sort quality animation as this segment.

I always like that despite Richard Tyler and Horror’s pleas to not have Dr. Jekyll drink the potion, he ignores them and does it anyway.

His transformation, however, always terrified me, especially when he grabs Richard Tyler and we see his hand slowly transforming and Richard slowly looks up terrified. This movie is still one of my favorites

Its amazing how many Star Trek alums are in this; Patrick Stewart (Jean Luc Picard), Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) and Leonard Nemoy (Spock). Didn't realize this until I was older.

Ah, the most terrifying scene of 1990s animation

I love how the light changes as dr.Jekyll drinks the concoction that transforms him into the hideous mr. Hyde. How the music drops out then storms back in as he grips his chest, adding to the tension of the scene. Scared the hell outta me as a kid but also enraptured me to love horror as a genre of storytelling.
