OMG I just cannot thank you enough it works, you won't believe me i bought brand new Sony Vaio laptop from currys and just within one month my mouse pad stopped working and since then was using mouse, and today after 4 years after watching your video it started working. Hi John. I use a can of compressed air very carefully between the touchpad gaps. I have to admit that I am no expert at this and i might cause damage someday but so far it works great and i don't have to disassemble anything. I suggest to take your laptop for cleaning to an expert first and ask him what to do if this happens again.

This didn't work. But I found a solution on a Toshiba forum worked on my Sony Vaio. Before resetting the defaults, unplug the power cord, remove the battery, then press the power button for 15 seconds to drain all power. Then, replace the battery, plug it back in and do the F2, as the video showed. After two weeks without a scratchpad, I'm finally back. So happy!

Can't believe it but it worked!  Had an external hard drive I was trying to repair connected by USB. Unplugged it and my mousepad is working again. Never would have thought of that.  Actually rebooted my laptop a few times too.
