Yanvalou Haitian Traditional Dance

Yanvalou, a traditional Haitian dance notoriously recognized for its distinct undulation movements, expresses hope and life. Originating from Benin, Yanvalou is a visual representation of the natural rising and falling of life. Through processing our pain (falling) we may begin to release it and transform it into uplifting joy (rising).

Beautiful and very expressive. It looks to me like she's doing bird-like movements throughout the dance, mimicking a serpent at one point and saluting the sun? Like she's embodying things you find in nature. It's the feeling I got from watching her dance.

Thanks for teaching. I used to dance and learn when I was young, then forgot about most movements and the teaching, so I will have to start all over and also teach my daughter's, until I can finally go back to my hometown and join other group folklore. Everytime I hear the instruments, I always feel called to dance lol
