The India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicted a setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Bengal. The BJP is likely to secure victory on 26 to 31 seats in Bengal, as per the survey. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is likely to secure 11 to 14 seats, the India Today exit poll predicted. The Axis My India exit poll predicted a likely increase in BJP's vote share in the eastern state. The rift among INDIA bloc partners led to a three-way contest in West Bengal between the Trinamool Congress, BJP, and Congress-Left combine. Mamata Banerjee, however, vowed her party’s support to the INDIA bloc at national level. In 2019 general elections, Trinamool Congress secured victory on 22 seats out of 42 seats. BJP, which had been trying to make a dent in the eastern state, secured 18 seats in the last Lok Sabha election. The Congress, which had contested on 40 seats, had won two seats.
