The History of Carhartt - Hey, it’s James Pumphrey. Today, I’m breaking down how Carhartt went from Detroit workwear to a global fashion icon.

It's not a car / Donut video, but I’m trying to bring that same energy to explore why Carhartt’s long game paid off. Whether you’re into fashion or just a good story, hope you like it.

COMMENT what else you wanna see me cover.

I work at Carhartt's corporate office. We should be using this video for onboarding new associates.

My grandfather is pictured at 15:44. He is the man on the left, Gerald Thursby. The picture was taken in the pacific theater of WWII. Super cool and completely unexpected to see him in this video.

I really miss this; James sitting infront of the camera and talking to us. The history lessons, I am being entertained and educated at the same time.

I have worked manual labor for over 20 years now and I'm actually glad that Carhartt is a bit of a fashion brand now. It means that my wardrobe for work is now socially acceptable for off duty and for the most part the quality at least in my experience for their pants and work shirts hasn't dropped much if at all.

This is like having a beer with an old friend you haven't seen in a while. The first one you're chill and smiling. After a few more I fully expect the all out insane James. Good to have you back.

I love the anti-gatekeeping theme of this video. Also mind blown at the realization that basically all of fashion is derived from work wear and or military clothing. That’s both reassuring and humbling.

"I wear Carhart because I'm working on myself" kinda slaps....

James, people fell in love with Donut because of you, not cars. Make videos about whatever you want and we are here to watch and support.

This is some real art, man. Its about carhart, but its actually about gatekeeping and the nature of art bringing us together.

I’m a oil fieldworker in Alaska and I see the pipeline every day and I am proud to say we are still wearing Carhartt! I love the mini documentary. Keep up the good work James!

“Liking stuff is fun, and kinda dumb”
Genuinely genuine genuinity. Thanks for doing your thing, James. Keep it coming, brother.

10 years ago I barely had $30 to my name when I asked a man at a thrift store for a discount on a Carhartt jacket listed at $35. It was fraying with many holes, and clearly *very* well used. But winter was coming fast.

He sold it to me for $18 and I thanked him with tears in my eyes. Little did I know that jacket would become priceless to me. . . I still wear the jacket often, and I always smile when I get comments on how cool it looks. 🤝

James' ability to tell a story is one-of-a-kind. He's like the Mr. Rogers we didn't know we needed. Look forward to what you have coming!

From Miners (drake) to Minors (drake) the fashion industry keeps on changing and James, you did an excellent job of showing that in this video.

A testament to James’ ability to capture an audience. I clicked for James not carhartt information but he literally could make any subject interesting to learn about. Long live speeed!!
