The photo of Rio de Janeiro was taken during the Rolling Stones concert at Copacabana on Feb 18th 2006, which attracted an audience of 1.5 million people. It is not really honest to take this pic to show how densely populated Rio is.

My late husband and I were with our children at the Ripon wine festival some decades ago, and our youngest child who was only 3 yrs old disappeared and was lost for 45 minutes. I lost my mind. And then she appeared out of nowhere and we scooped her up. To this day I’ve never known what happened to her but as this film showed a beach in Brazil that looked like it had a million people on it I thought what if we had lost Sabrina in THAT. We’d have never found her.

2:44 Who on earth would go to a beach like that?. 😳
Those people had to be desperate for the water. 🤽‍♂️ 🏊‍♂️ 🏄‍♂️
The minute I see that crowd I wouldn't bother. I would find somewhere else.

I can’t believe the photo of rio de janiero is real…. Wow. Can’t believe that many people could be in one area without a mass casualty event of some kind.

Arguably the main reason to live in hugely over-populated cities is if you really like being around bunches of people or you have to be there in order to have a job that pays enough to survive or maybe prosper. I live in northern Thailand now, just outside Thailand's #2 city Chiang Mai in a rural setting surrounded by rice fields and hilly farms. Bangkok the "Big Mango" lost its appeal years ago, just too big and crazy crowded. I originally came from the Seattle, Washington area, but even that once-livable city in a mostly beautiful part of the world has also lost its appeal due to sprawling USA-style poverty, tent cities, drug addiction, and also crazy real estate prices if you have enough money for even a modest house in the boring suburbs. Consider yourself lucky if you can find a place on Earth which is still happy, beautiful and affordable. The economic gap between haves and have-nots is widening, and ironically poorer people are making more babies.

68, 000 people per sq mile in that spot in Paris? WTH?! Here in rural USA, there’s me and a few chickens per sq mile, surrounded by empty desert. Just the way i like it!

My brief stays in HK, Shenzhen and Guilin are probably the most crowded of my life, but I challenge anyone watching this to spend a week in Jakarta and tell me that city is sustainable. I get that the people are trying to address the issues of over-population, but when your own government decides to abandon the capital, you have a problem. Some claim Surabaya is worse - to those folk, you are welcome to it.

This makes me appreciate my little town so much more. Downtown is mostly asleep by 10 pm unless it’s the weekend or there’s an event going on.

More people equals more waste, and more over crowding .Also equals to more slums, more traffic and not healthy areas. Things need to change.

21 million is not the population of Manila, not even Metro Manila. Manila's population is less than 2 million while Metro Manila's population is only 13 million. Metro Manila is composed of 17 cities and it already includes both Manila and Malabon which were in this list.

Guttenburg is a very tiny town but it doesn't feel densely populated. You won't see crowded streets there. Yes, I assume they are counting the apartment complex, but when you are there, it doesn't feel crowded like Mumbai. Plenty of people still have cars and its quiet LOL. I think Union City, NJ feels packed and looks like what you'd expect. The streets are tight and full of restaurants and stores. I always feel like I've gone to a city in Latin America when I go there. Its a wonderful place to find unusual items. Despite the density of NJ, the only time you'll feel like its too many people is during rush hour and if you go to a mall on the weekend (which I never do.

Mong Kok is a beautiful city and has a modern and clean downtown, plenty of shopping and restaurants, it seems to have been in an area that has evolved a little better, a little nicer, than other areas of the country.

Vasectomies, tubal ligations, and birth control pills would prevent human suffering and hardship, if the means aren't available why bring humans into this world.

I was 12 when my parents took us girls to Rio in January, 1970. The beach wasn't crowded at all. We ate at El Faro restaurant on the strip, and I see it still exists. Best restaurant.

Between 1:46 and 1:51 you say that the Kowloon Walled City was "... demolished back when the government of Hong Kong was returned to the Chinese ...".

This statement is categorically untrue.

The Kowloon Walled City was demolished under British rule, between March 1993 and April 1994.

The government of Hong Kong was not returned to China until midnight 30 June/1 July 1997.

How do I know this? Because I've been living in Hong Kong for the past 33+ years, since 12 January 1990.

I lived in Hong Kong for 20 years, initially in Mong Kok, but later on Lantau Island which is twice the size of Hong Kong Island/Kowloon but with a fraction of the population. What distinguishes HK from the other places you mention is that it is orderly, relatively clean and extremely efficient. I now live in Antipolo, only about 90 minutes from Metro Manila, Philippines, but the difference is staggering, since Antipolo is about 800-1000m above sea level and very sparsely populated.
