When the Germans make a vehicle they make the best a car a Tank, I still remember coming across a Leopard driver training Tank on a muddy range somewhere in Germany I had just drove over the same course in my Chieftain it struggled then this Leopard came along and flew over the course at twice the speed I could do as they passed they smiled and waved at us.

When I arrived in Germany, we were bouncing around quite merrily in our M-113s, like most everyone else out there. We were out on exercise in January 1977,
1st major winter Ex. in a long while, anyway, I will confess to being shocked when we crossed path with Panzergrenadiere outfitted with Marders, whilst keeping
abreast of their Leopard 1s and the new Leo 2s, Canada had just acquired Leo 1s from Germany, dropping our Centurions. The Dragoons were just training on them (Leos),
familiarisation: basic maintenance, operating on/off road and gunnery at the time using borrowed Leopards from the HEER.
Talk about ''junk envy'', we had transitioned from mounting an M1919 Browning 7.62mm to a .50 cal, and this hot-rod sported a 20mm autocannon with a coaxial MG-3!
It was all pretty impressive, we would be running along some road, the Leos & Marders were keeping abreast of us in the farmers field before overtaking M-113.
I also got my first up close look at a Warthog, as we were buzzed (30-40 m over us) along some forested road, talk about seeing your life flash before your eyes!
As usual you provide a balanced appraisal and analysis, well done lad. Be well and stay safe

Great video Mat! Greetings from Germany.
Being assigned to an armored infantry battalion in 1997 I can still hear the Marders driving around accompanying Leopard 2 on the training grounds

Great video! What I Love is, that considering the transition from Marder to Puma, The Marder is now not just scraped .. he's given the chance to leave this world as it has to be. Fireing and moving forward.

My favorite? Marder and Puma. But i love all IFVs. First and foremost, they punch far above their weight limit. Auto canons and guided missile launchers make them a danger for almost everything on the battlefield. Infantry, tanks, aircraft...it doesn't matter. An IFV will hurt you and try to kill you. Second and last, IFVs are remarkable marvels of bio-mechanic engineering and symbipsis, because inside these vehicles lives a small colony of borderline insane creatures that are armed with spades and RPGs, whose sole purpose in life is to wreak havoc on both friend or foe. Here in Germany we call them Panzergrenadiere but you may know them as Mechanized Infantry. In theory, they come in both male and female form and in all forms and sizes that are allowed to serve in the military, but in reality, they're basically invisible until an enemy tank arrives. What follows is a recreation of that scene from Jurassic Park when the Raptors ate the cow, just louder and even more chaotic.

Military vehicles need to have a mini CWIS to counter Drone threats. A video on anti-drone weapon systems would be of interest.

I was a driver at the marder in 82. That time all our marders could run much faster as they did today. We had 3 driving school marders without turret and they brought 125 km/h topspeed on road. But all Marders of our batallion can go as fast as 110 km/h. I still remember seeing the scared faces of the truck drivers as we thundered past them at 100 km/h on narrow roads.

Finally a Marder IFV video. Now we just need an AMX-10P video to complete the Cold War set.

6:12 the Marder 1A5 was designed by the experience of the several wars in former yugoslavia where also were serveral threads by mines and IED. The 1A5A1 was designed with the experience of the Afghanistan war and the specific requierements.

TY Mat. This, and a stack of other intel, suggests to me the Marder was the best in class, and the best for hot rodding over rough terrain ; it was retired too early, like the Gepard as well. In this case a vehicle from the last war, will do fine in the next couple wars also.

Great to see you do a video again Matt. I would like you feedback on recent British Army IFVs and also the M-10 Booker

Good overview of an outstanding machine. They did consider upgrading to Marder 2, with a real turret, but the cold war wound down; the prototype is in Koblenz(?) _ Add the CV-90 turret, it would be close to perfection.

I was deployed in Macedonia and supported our comrades in the mechanized task force with their Marders and Leopard 2 before the invasion of Kosovo in June 1999.
