Taika Waititi has confirmed that he is not interested in directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He does hope to make another Marvel movie again one day but as to why he doesn’’t want to helm the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy? It’s simple. He doesn’t want to go into James Gunn’s house and mess it up.

Glad to see that Taika respects the GotG franchise.

Why can’t Disney just admit they’re wrong? Gunn is known for directing dark comedies, and made a darkly comedic joke a decade ago. But somehow Bryan Singer was allowed to direct Bohemian Rhapsody? 🤔

"Hey, I'm your new dad!" Is what Taika said to Chris Hensworth when he stepped onto the set of Thor Ragnarok.

Maybe they should let Bradley Cooper direct it. He's been part of this franchise since the beginning and he knows the cast and Marvel team well. He definitely proved himself as a good director with A Star is Born, and I think Gunn would give him his blessing to conclude his trilogy. The only question is whether he would even want to do it.

I really respect what the other directors said.Makes sense to me. I really think if Dianey can't get Gunn back, they should let the Gotg move on elsewhere. It seems like the only move left.

This whole situation is so upsetting. Starting from the original controversy. I mean, I get why Disney fired him, but it was such a stupid and uncalled for move. At least in the way it happened. Just an immediate firing and disrespect for their own director for comments they likely already knew he made. There was no admitting to that. They just acted like they had no clue how much of a monster he _must_ be. It's stupid and ridiculous, but at least we've got the cast and other directors who still have his back.

Thor and The Guardians of the Galaxy, it has a nice ring to it, I would watch that movie.

They need to beg for forgiveness and get James back.

I think we need some pitch meetings from Directors for this. It would be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Let's not forget that Nicole Perlman wrote the first GOTG, you have to give credit to her. I love GOTG 2 which Gunn wrote, but not as much as the first one. If there's going to a third it needs to have Perlman review the writing to close the trilogy off well. GOTG 2 for me had a lot of forced humour but also maintained the heart that the first one has.

Having a Thor movie with the guardians would be cool, but still they need to bring James Gunn back If they ever want to have a successful stand alone Guardians Of The Galaxy film.

They’ll find someone. That’s why it’s on the back burner. People tend to forget. They’re trying to figure it out. They can also swap out characters like the comics.

I think for Guardians 3 to succeed, the director would need to have James Gunn's explicit blessing. But I imagine James Gunn would like to see Guardians 3 get made, so I think he would give it. Personally I'd like to see it given to Nicole Perlman. I know, it would be her first feature film, but Marvel has made outside-the-box choices like that before.

The gaurdians need a new movie because James Gunn set up Adam Warlock. To just forget about that would be another kick in the face to James and us fans. I've wanted Adam Warlock in the MCU for ages and would be pissed if they just skipped over it.

They think they're not gonna do Guardians 3?
are they stoned or stupid?
i mean... Disney, FFS, just rehire the guy.
stand up, admit you were wrong, donate a couple of million to a random charity of your choosing, rehire James Gunn, ignore what the press say - most of whom are on the side of James in the first place - and market the sheet outta Guardians 3 with a happy, cheerful cast and complete the trilogy making quadrillions of $$$ in the process.

or, you can just not do the movie and leave quadrillions of $$$ on the table.
Your call.

I never knew the world turned into such a dick-swinging contest.

Well Taika Watiti did that with the Thor franshise, I know that the first two were directed by different directors but they felt very similar (although Thor 2 didn't bring the same level of energy that Kenneth Bragnah brought to the first Thor).

IMO get cast and directors in the room, let them read Gunn''s tweets and looks at the images he posted. Then come to the obvious conclusion, wow this is disgusting, having Gunn separated from this franchise isn't the worst thing to happen. we should work together to give the fans what they want and move on.

Without Gunn to inject the heart into the characters, it will fail. Case in point - even though Gunn consulted on it - the writing decisions for Quill were antagonistic. From Thor to Stark - Pratt's character came across "off". Only the Gamora and Quill scene showed a bit of heart in Infinity War. Anyway, my point is - it's already been demonstrated that without Gunn, the guardians don't really work - or at least, are written out of character. Besides, currently they're all decimated except for Rocket, so if not everyone is coming back - it wouldn't be difficult to remove them completely from any future episodes.
