I completed this anime and binge watched it yesterday, it was a bad idea, I cannot sleep now and I feel devastated.. The soundtracks, story, animation all 10/10.. The fact that kaori's treasure was a photo of hers and kousei, which was taken by chance, still breaks me.. Kaori still lives in our hearts..

Kaori takes the crucial surgery because she doesn't want to end everything with Kousei after she finally gets too close with him.. The sad part is that the surgery didn't go well and she died..

We can clearly see that she really want a healthy relationship with Kousei once she fully recover and will about to confess if the surgery succeed..

Btw, the final words from the lyrics is "Goodbye and Thank you".. very touching..

I keep seeing people just talk about how sad this version is, and that's true. But for me, it's more than that. This song is like it's grieving. It's like it's trying to find hope and move on despite the pain, but for now, it can't. And it's ok with that. For now, it needs this time to be sad.

While the original reminisces on what is past, the acoustic mourns what could have been.

What could those two young musicians could have been together. All those Aprils that they should have spent together, but were stolen. All those duets that will never be performed.

The 'arigato' in the original sounds almost happy, and grateful, as if it's being called into the distance. Because it's looking so far back into the past, it can barely be reached. Whereas here, it's low and bittersweet, the scars of loss and grief still stinging and fresh, as if it were only yesterday Kousei and Kaori were preparing for what was meant to be final duet.

The piano and violin together in harmony is everything: the keys mourning what's lost forever, and the bow bouncing off the strings trying to cheer us up and show us the beauty despite the pain. I adore how the intro mimics parts of the soundtrack used in the show.

This song is Kousei and us, our pain as we watch our friend say goodbye, yet we're so happy and grateful that we still got to know her, and learn from her. 

That's how I feel anyway.

I did watch this and finished this in April of 2023. In my whole life, I never felt so happy and sad at the same time. your lie in April is like a roller coaster ride it brings me to adventure. I could never be happier than this thankful that I found this beautiful art of story.
