We are so proud to have George as a resident of our town of Greeneville Tn. His shop and gallery are right off the main street, on Church St, in the heart of all the many historic buildings. If you are ever in this area do not miss going by his shop. He is one of the most talented, interesting and friendly people you will ever meet. He is turning an old laundry building (that was a soft drink bottling and distribution building) into his gallery, workshop, and his home. It is amazing what he has done to the building so far, but after you get to know him you realize that he too is an amazing person.

Completely amazing, especially his story at the beginning about applying for college. What self belief and resilience. I once attended a training event where we had a talk from a mountaineer who had lost both his hands and both his feet due to frostbite on Mont Blanc - he got caught in a 5 days storm and his friend died. He showed us how he had learned to juggle, signed his book (with no hands), and mentioned casually that he had sailed across the Atlantic and taken up snow boarding since then.

What an inspiration! Beyond being a woodworker and blind, Mr. Wurtzel was so entertaining. His personality came though very well, he seems like a great guy. Seeing his ingenuity and determination to create, despite setbacks, really brings to mind the saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way." Thanks for bringing Mr. Wurtzel's story to us!

Awesome episode. I attended emergency shelter training recently where they had an instructor for the blind and he taught us how to work with the blind at a shelter and what it’s like to be someone who is blind. Things like walking out the from your front door how to get back to your front door is very challenging as a recently blind person.

As good an episode as I’ve ever seen. I’ve shared this with my two sons. There are LOTS of life lessons to be learned from this fellow!

Truly inspiring. In the late 40s I recall a broom makers shop across the street from my grade school where all workers were blind and ran machinery making straw floor and whisk brooms. I marveled then and now watching this vid.

Highland Woodworking
Let's say that I've a 12" long, 3" square, piece of wood, and I want to cut it's length, in half, so that each of the two pieces is cut in the middle along it's length, DIAGONALLY (so as to create two 12" long pieces of wood triangular through it's length) - with only a bandsaw.
I realize that I'd need a special jig to hold the wood as it is being cut - would you be able to provide a video showing how you'd do it?
Many thanks!
