I just saw the collection plate fallimg to the ground. That was spirit and not an accident and i saw that someone mentioned the chairs are turned around. Good catch to the person who caught that. That church was very much like the ones from my childhood. The basement was the reception hall. They would have Christmas and Easter celebrations, wedding receptions, parties for christenings, a gathering after a funeral, and other celebrations. They were usually potluck and most of the time fun. Most churches were very social. As for that walkway...your guess is as good as mine.
