So some of the new batteries may already be in the S and X. Short sellers noticed that Japan shipped battery materials dropped by half this quarter to the US, but material is the same for China. Green on twitter notified there are some new battery IDs and drive trains embedded in the newest software not yet released. So all signs point to new drive train and batteries either already in production or ordered soon. I believe the last time they introduced a range increase and retroactivated via software for all the cars that got them a month before. They have found this to prevent osbourning and pissed off customers.

Battery Day has been delayed for month due to the illness.
But here is the thing, Elon wanted it to happen with real visitors. Not only with a boring stream.
This is important for project Roadrunner and showing the factory to those visitors. Real substance.

Since then Lucid added obvious pressure on Tesla with their Air presentation.
Teasing a Lucid Air with three motors. A open challenge to the Tesla Plaid Tech.

And we got one important hint from Elon.
That Battery Day will be VERY insane.

If he plays his cards right, the stock should be easily up over 100 on Wednesday.
You mentioned the Apple / Jobs tactic from back then.

12:20  You do realize that the Maxwell acquisition included manufacturing facilities in San Diego, Arizona, China, South Korea,  some of which were being expanded before and during the acquisition
time frame (mid 2018 [collaboration talks] to mid 2019 [consumation]). My guess is the new Tesla cell inventory and the lines making them are sitting in Maxwell factories, not in Fremont or Nevada.  Most likely, the lines making Maxwell's "L-Cap" (which Maxwell no longer sells) were converted to new Tesla cell production and new lines were added.  The L-Cap is the predecessor of the new cell.  Prediction:  the new Tesla cells are in fact hybrid lithium capacitors, an ultra-cap/lithium battery combo that has truly "insane" capabilities.
