Trump's plan for peace negotiations

Trump will negotiate a peace deal with Putin without involving Ukraine and Europe, and Ukraine will make significant concessions to satisfy the Russians. That has been the message from the American administration over the last few days.
In this video I discuss what it says about Trump's understanding of the war, and why the plan is bound to fail. The really interesting question is therefore not what Trump says he will do now, but what he will do when it doesn't work.

Always use a crisis as an opportunity. The EU has enough capability to build its own military-industrial complex, support Ukraine and not rely on anyone else for security. This is a wake up call and it is time to act.

Just face the fact that “the west” as we know it is dead. EU and US are different now, they have different goals, maybe even contradict each other. EU should treat US like India, not hostile but neutral

We need to improve european militairies, not to please Trump and the US, but because we can not trust the US any more.

And we need to do it with european hardware, we should not be dependend on the US (or give them the turnover the militairy investments would bring).

Excellent narrative Anders! As a Canadian nothing surprises me from Donald Trump anymore. What most people are getting wrong with Trump is that he does have dictatorship aspirations. He is quoted as stating that he thought Putin was a genius for "ANNEXING" Crimea off of Ukraine. Now he is using the same word "ANNEX" for my own Canada and Greenland. All NATO needs to support Ukraine, with or without the U.S.A.

We Canadians, for the most part, still support Ukraine, with or without the USA. An unjust peace is just going to lead to more violence. I think any reasonable person can see that. The problem is that Trump and his team are not reasonable in any way shape or form. Russia must not be allowed to benefit in any way from their horrific violence.
