If you have a sick or injured bird in your possession I can not help this bird in any way it is strongly advised to contact a local vet or wildlife official before any decisions are made. It is very easy to do more harm than good when handling any wildlife.

Im a manager in a grocery store in Missouri and a few years ago a cardinal flew in the receiving bay during winter and refused to leave. Many employees took to him and we called him Marty. I would feed him berries and seed every morning by the open bay and he eventually trusted me enough to land on me to feed. I loved his songs and smiled when he would see me and fly up to greet me. In the following spring I knew he had to go back out side to his people. I sat out on the back docks and whistled for him and shook his food cup. He flew to me and ate. Eventually after a few days of this I think he got the hint, he flew off into the trees and I never saw him again. I hope he did ok out there, I still think of him every time I'm around the back dock.

Woke up many a morning hearing the cardinals singing.

My mother loved her Cardinals. For years, there was one male that would fly into her sliding glass door feet first over and over until she filled the bird feeder.

There is nothing better during a drab, grey winter day than to see a bright red cardinal in a snow-covered pine tree! We had 3 pair around this past winter, but there appears to be only 2 pair around still. I think they dispersed off into their own territories, but the two pair still come back to our feeders. It's true, we see them mostly early in the morning and at dusk. It always sounds like they're singing "purdy, purdy, purdy" to me!

We had the wonderful experience of seeing them nest in a blue spruce tree right outside our front window several years ago. They had two babies, and when they left the nest the parents took them in two separate directions, I assume to up their chances of survival. One year, the male stood on our window air conditioner and pecked at his reflection in the window. We have since gotten central air and had to take the blue spruce down due to disease, but they moved to a group of pines a little further from our house so I'm hoping to see lots of babies this year! They are very "parental" birds, so I'm not surprised to hear they feed other bird's babies, but I did not know they were related to rose breasted grosbeaks!

During the coldest months of winter here cardinals stop being territorial and get along. It's not uncommon to have a dozen at my feeders when there is snow on the ground.

So many things I just learned. They are striking birds. The red color is amazing. An old tale we learned is that when a cardinal shows up in your yard its a loved one who passed is contacting you.

One of my favorite things about cardinals is how they show their happiness when they discover a feeder full of sunflower seeds! They sing and bounce around with joy in a way that is uniquely cardinal. I just love them!

I'm down in South Carolina and we've got them by the tons! I sat outside of my doctor's office this morning waiting to be seen and listen to the Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, Carolina Wren and Pine Warblers. We are living in an apartment complex at the moment while our new house is being built so no backyard birds for me this year. Though last year when I really started birding I put out dried meal worms and my Cardinals loved them more than any other species that visited the backyard. I miss my birds.

Agreed, they are definitely the last birds at my feeder every night, even when its almost completely dark out.

Usually every morning outside my window at work, a little girl cardinal is getting some breakfast at the feeder. I say good morning to her every time I see her. :3

The beauty of the female cardinal is often overlooked. I had a window feeder over a couple of winters, and seeing the female up close, especially with the sun on her is quite impressive. The subtly of the coppers and russets is as inspiring as the male's vibrancy. "Drab" Harrumph!
