BLENDER BASICS 18 - Working With Blend Files

Saving and opening files in Blender works like in any other program, but you can also bring objects and data into other files via appending and linking.

Appending fully copies the object to the new file while linking references it from the original file. Linked objects can only be edited in the original file unless properties, like transformations or material colors, are overridden.

The fastest way to append objects in Blender, if you have two files open at the same time using the same version of Blender, is just to use Ctrl C and Ctrl V to copy and paste between them.

Got to admit the "luckily, this doesn't happen very often" line made me smirk.

Excellent video, after a few year of arch modelling in Blender it was very helpful to get this refresher and learn some new things

The thing is if you go object mode and ctrl c then exit blender then open a new blender and ctrl v it will paste the mesh object you copied. make changes on the new open blender do some changes and save it and exit. then when you reopen again and ctrl c it will paste that mesh object again.

Append objects/collections, link, pack resources

It would be useful if Blender didn’t override files with similar names without warning when saving or rendering like any other software.
