I dunno. Some of these cars don't look like direct copycats. And certainly not as bad as the chinese copycats.

I've never thought of the Ls400 looking like the s class, or the frv (called the edix in jdm) looking like the a class, they don't really look like direct copycats.

Could you please explain how the 1990 Lexus ls400 was a copy of the Mercedes w140 which came out in 1991?

The Mr2 is just like a Porsche boxster, but cheaper and more reliable

Thanks for making these videos punchy and to the point instead of dragging them out to make them 10 minutes

I hate to be that guy, but I'm going to be that guy. The first entry you had on this list is wrong, the Lexus LS400 came out in 1990 and the Mercedes-Benz w140 came out in 1991, meaning Mercedes-Benz copied Lexus not the other way around. And some of these other ones like the Celica and the Mustang I do not see any similarities whatsoever. And then there's the Honda HRV and the Mercedes Benz A-Class, in my opinion the HRV looks bigger and nicer then the A-Class. I also don't see how the third gen MR2 looks like a Porsche Boxer, I mean probably with the headlights and the front bumper maybe, but other than that I don't see similarities in those either. And not only that, but I find it funny that the majority of the cars on this list we're Toyota's. Toyota makes the most reliable cars in the world, and cars you put them against that you think they "copied" I don't think so. I think they gave their own design to it and they just look similar.

In Australia we have a Toyota that looks like a holden commodore we have a Nissan Ute that looks like a ford Ute and we also have a ford maverick that looks like a Nissan patrol

They may look similar but Japanese copies are more reliable than the originals

I won't say they copied, I would say inspired, now what the Chinese do is straight up coying, lol

I had no idea about this. I just chalked it up to cars looking similar 😅

There's a major difference between inspiration and copying. You can blame the chinese and koreans for copying, but not the japanese.

Japanese word for learn "manabu' is said to come from "maneru" which means copy.

If it's more reliable than the original I don't care if the design is "inspired" or not

Mitsubishi Galant VIII looks much like a late 90s 5-series BMW.

The Toyota Megacruiser it's a 4 cyl diesel but I heard it has a better gas mileage than the crappy V8 from the Hummer and the Megacruiser has 4 wheel steering

The US army contracted Toyota to produce them jeeps for the Korean war, that’s how the Land Cruiser was born. So in this case i don’t think it’s plagiarism.

I wouldn't call it copycat personally. I'd rather call it Japanese alternative. Sometimes, one way or another, a better alternative. Well, except the last 3 entries
