I saved my “momma” Hoya and some starts with vigorous and diligent alcohol application. It took months, but I have beautiful healthy plants now.

I find that when mealy bugs are on the leaves, they’re almost certainly also in the soil. When that’s the case, I just trash the plant.

Your hoya australia lisa looks mature, i wonder where the mealy bugs came from? I have the same case, its been without any pest, then after a year or two, meally bugs appeared, how? No new plant next to it!....so i do what you do too, i use 99% alcohol even stronger than what you use, but treating also needs to be done multiple times, very annoying ...so throwing it away is a sure thing not to get the mealy bugs transferred to other plants....but beware it could already have infected others so be vigilant and spray alcohol to nearby plants too!

Will the cold shock it? I brought mine in for the winter because I knew that we get some days that dip below freezing, and I was afraid the cold would kill them. But they can handle snow and be ok? Omg I need to toughen my Hoya up.

I treat for mealies the same as other pests, I add alcohol to my insecticidal soap bottle and poof.
