I just learned more in 10 minutes than my whole freshman year of high school 👨🏻‍🎓

I have read and watched many reviews on the Rekluse and Hinson and not one of the magazines or other testing guys has ever shown the wear and tear with the rubber gromets or explained the slippage that way. Very cool good job Jeff.

Hey guys! I mis-spoke in this video when I said the Rekluse basket was one piece. The Rekluse basket is just like the Hinson and comes with the rubber dampeners which are replaceable, so that's a solid upgrade and I highly recommend it if you go that route! Also, I would like to point out that Rekluse offers 3 different clutch springs: silver (softest), gold (middle), and red (stiffest). I was using 3 red and 3 silver springs. Using 6 silver or a combination of silver and gold will result in a less aggressive clutch and can improve life-expectancy in the TorqDrive system. Thanks for reading!

I KNOW I’ve been riding longer then you’ve been alive and I’ve NEVER heard/seen a better explanation of how the clutch, as a system, works! After the tons of clutches that I’ve replaced, THANK GOD, I never had to explain “how all of it works”....until now! Next up...explain the damn intricacies of SUSPENSION!!! 👍 I even own the suspension Bible and still can’t explain it!

Great job explaining how a clutch works! I would love to see more of this kind of stuff on the channel.

This is currently the best example of how a motocross clutch works on the internet, I have never seen it explained to easily and well before, thanks Jeff

Really good video, and definitely some good info. A couple things to note though for whatever it's worth:
1) The amount of pad area on each fiber doesn't directly affect the grip of that fiber. It merely changes the pad pressure, which can affect the life of the fiber material. In general, lower pad pressure = greater pad life.
2) The Rekluse has an option included in the TorqDrive kits to greatly reduce the clamping force, which would allow you to reduce the torque capacity down to the level of a Hinson or Stock if there is concerns about durability of the transmission, but with a much lighter lever pull than a stock clutch or Hinson.
3) The Rekluse basket is not a one piece gear on the back, it is similar to the Hinson in that it has dampers, and the basket is assembled with allen head bolts allowing the dampers to be serviceable.
4) There is some benefit to having the steel core thin fiber plates of the TorqDrive because they don't expand as much as the aluminum core fiber plates of the stock or Hinson.
5) Starts aren't typically what kills transmissions and basket dampers, whoops and landing hard on the gas is what does it. But it is true that a clutch with more torque capacity will be harder on the basket dampers and transmissions in those situations.

That “basic” overview of how a clutch works just solved a 20 year mystery for me. Cheers

Great video, I'm a 50's vet rider, intermediate level, I have a 2013 CRF450R with the Rekluse 3.0 with over 70 hours and no issues, have a 2019 CRF450WE with the Rekluse Radius CX with 30 hours and no issues. These are both the "Auto" systems which I like. I would say I'm pretty easy on a clutch as I had over 50hrs on the stock 2013 clutch. Congratulations on the new team and best of luck this motocross season.

Great break down! But yes like somebody else said do a triple clamp vid and break down the difference in offsets. Keep up the good work man

Barnett also makes very good clutch components, worth consideration, especially their clutch baskets and pressure plate with steel inserts in high wear areas.

I've been riding for 25 year and have never truly understood the inner working of a motorcycle clutch. I do now. Thanks for taking the time to brake each function down and explain it in plain English. Looking for to more components like suspension & transmissions.

From an over 50 rider i really enjoyed this video. Great overview of how it all works and useful information that caters to everybody's usage. One minor mistake that if it wasn't pointed out doesn't really matter to 99.99% of riders. Keep up the great work and all the best for the year ahead.

I just wanted to hop on here and say thanks for doing such an informative video and explaining these 2 systems in a clear and concise way anyone can understand. I've had several guys try to explain this but your video allowed me to understand them 100%. Wish there was other videos explaining installs and such as good as this. Thanks a ton.

Nice job on the explanation of the 3 clutch systems and comparing their functions vs. performance. I think many readers got a clearer understanding from this video.

I'm new to the motorcycle world at 50 (should've done it sooner!) and this is by far is the best video I have seen that explains clutch and the mechanics behind it. Kudos to you, young man and thanks for the information.

I learned something ive never heard before and it makes absolute perfect sense.... clutch plates are basically brake pads
