How Ben Simmons is a basketball genius

Ben Simmons is a 6’9 playmaker with incredible vision, but won’t take jumpers, can’t hit free throws consistently, and might be shooting with the wrong hand. None of that has gotten in the way of him doing awesome things on the court that have to be seen to be believed.

Not many people know this but Ben Simmons played junior afl (Australian Football League)(Its not rugby) when he was younger. It explains why he has no hesitation to drive, his vision is insane and he couldnt care less about who he has standing in front of him. In AFL you NEED to have insane vision. He played ruckman which is afl's center. In ruckman you are looking in the air constantly at the ball so when you look down you have about 1 to 2 seconds to get rid of the ball to your teammate or you will get tackled. You can tell Ben has an urgency to pass the ball quickly and efficiently. He is truly a great player.

If he develops a jumper, take my word, he will be the best player in the NBA.

as a sixers fan who’s watched them play like complete trash the past 10 games and lose 8 of their last 9, this video was much appreciated❤️

How much of an issue is his free-throwing? If he drives that much, it would seem important.

This video aged like fine wine! Ben "the scientist" upto this day still can't shoot to save his life!

He's labelled as 6'10 but apparently his peers said he's grown to almost 7'0....a 7 FOOT PG!!!

I’ve been a Sixers fan for my whole life and have never been more excited for a single player ever. And if he gets a jumper... he’ll be mvp

So he's Rajon Rondo at 6'10. Rondo is one of my favorite pgs and it's crazy that Ben Simmons is the same exact player but we shit on Rondo.

You make a lot of his weaknesses sound like strengths here. This dude constantly drives into traffic with no plan and gets caught either having to take a terrible shot with his right (which you say is his weak hand but in actuality is the only hand he ever shoots with) or having to throw an insane pass to a covered team mate on the perimeter. The next step for his game is to learn to slow down and read what the defense is giving him and how to utilize the space rather than put his head down and go flying into the space defenders are giving him without a second thought.

“Put him in a box and his limitations will show.” Interesting…

Never tell anyone that "it doesn't matter if he can't shoot". You'll never fully realize your potential in this game unless you keep telling yourself that the basic stuff of basketball can be disregarded. He's good sure. Imagine how much more if he has the option to take a plain... no fancy, mid range jump shot.

The way he uses his body movement and small fakes to tear open the defense is FN ridiculous. He’s not trying to beat the guy in front of him. That guy is already beat, it just hasn’t happened yet. Ben Simmons is looking past his guy and making the other defenders move around. He’s the puppet master. I watched him for five minutes and could tell he’s playing a different game. Chris Paul wrecks defenses with that same type of court vision. (Used to anyway. ).
