The Last Straw: Sky News spends critical year with farming family

Many months before farmers found themselves on the front pages of newspapers, protesting in Whitehall against the new government's inheritance tax rules, Sky News embarked upon a project.

Economics and data editor Ed Conway and economics producer Aoife Yourell, spent the year following the Bower family on their farm to tell their story, through the seasons, as they face a changing climate, the threat of disease and the reality of Brexit.

As a farmer, I feel I can say that this report was excellent. Nice to see Sky News putting together a good piece on a year of farming here in the UK. Well done.

Farmers need to develop a model where they have a direct relationship with the consumer. They should shun the middleman like the PLAGUE.

Starmer out... focus on stopping the boats... get your British money from that! Leave our farmers & their families alone!

Brilliant summary by Sky, they have done some great News pieces this year. Much better than the BBC now.

Well done Sky news❤

Why should farmers get inheritance tax relief on parts of the business that isnt farming? Maybe we should encourage them to make food instead.
No one else can get APR on a soft play centre, just farmers.

How about spending some time with families in London of those who we're mown down on Christmas day by a car of " peace " and a driver screaming " Alan's Snackbar Alan's Snackbar ". Much better to ignore it or the people of Britain might do what the German people are doing right now after they suffered the same attack. Go out onto the streets protesting at the government.

I thought that was aimed at the people we have foolishly let into the country when I first saw it..

Farmers need to stop using farms as tax avoidance vehicles. Time to call out Clarkson and Dyson and any other greedy farmer. IHT is essential to stop greedy farmers. Farmers need to pay their fair share and stop exploiting nurses and care workers who subsidise the farmers.

The massive Brexit shaped black hole in the economy needs to be filled somehow. And seeing farming voted and promoted Brexit it heavily they should shoulder some of this responsibility.

They gambled their own businesses and were entirely prepared to throw the country under the bus to deregulate farming via Brexit and against what their union was telling them. They did it anyway to satisfy their greed.

If farmers have a toss about feeding Brits they would never have voted for Brexit ….it’s a load of crap!
