My quail always act like they are going to die if their feed bin is empty for 5 minutes, haha.

When I started my Quail last spring they were on a starter feed then switched a Quail Grower crumb and I was surprised to learn that there isn't a layer or maintenance feed available here you just keep them on the grower crumb.

Your quail look very happy and healthy. I have Cortunix quail but they still haven't started laying eggs at 8 weeks so I will try a different feed.

My quails make a lovely sound when meal worms are on the menu. It makes all the other quails head to the one making the "mealworms" sound.

I use Red Hen 17 from hatching on. I grind it in a coffee grinder for the quail that have hatched then move them on to the crumble when they are old enough

Thank you Mark for the info!  I can't right now - but I hope to have a few quail some day!  I have heard good things about their eggs.  Cute birds & their eggs too  LOL! Have a great week - I have to keep thinking it is almost Summer there!  Supposed to be unseasonably warm here in the Eastern U.S. towards the end of this week I believe - it will give me a chance to do a bit more outside work - before the snow blows - if it does this year.

Ooo! You should do an incubator update on the little blue incubator you have! :D You got a whole variety to breed!

Gamebird breeder is the best in my opinion. I'm not a fan of maintenance, protein is a bit low, eggs are better on breeder

hii,

by feeding them all feed from store, is it worth it ? you can feed chicken less by letting them to scratch in the lawn or compost for food.. that is one way to save some penny on chicken feed. but can you do the same to quail ?

i didn't see them eat grass so far..

Cutest little things ever! How often do you have to fill the feeder? It looks like a nice size too. Great idea the cone! I've always wanted to keep quail, ever since I found out how many keep them, and seem to really like them. I had no idea how popular they were here in the States. I love chickens, but I'm thinking that quail may be a better choice for me. I can't do what I used to, (getting old) and they seem to be a little easier than chickens. Is that true or is it just the ones I have seen on Youtube? I'm not going to have that many, no matter what I choose, but I do hope to have some by this spring. Just can't decide on which ones. Can you also tell me how much room they need, and if they need the boxes to lay eggs in? I know chickens just not quail. Is there a huge difference? With winter coming in, I figured I have plenty of time to read up on them and try to decide long before I have to order them. I value your opinion, so let me know what you think. Bless, Sheila

Where do you buy this feed brand from?

I have A&M, only a few, I ended up with 3 roosters and 2 females. I had to separate one of the roosters as he became very aggressive actually hurting another male. I want a larger cage so this perhaps won't be so much an issue. I was wondering how that incubator is. Do you still think it is worthwhile? I was thinking even of buying one of those small 7 eggs things, just for the quail eggs. I wish spring was here and winter is just getting started here. sigh
