Lilly King DQ Video - ISL Grand Finale

The controversial turn that saw Lilly King and the Cali Condors' 400 medley relay disqualified for a "non-simultaneous touch" on day 1 of the ISL grand final. The disqualification resulted in a 50 point swing and put Energy Standard firmly into the lead heading into day 2 of the meet.

The rule is nonsensical anyway. There is no such thing as a "simultaneous touch". The rule should be that the swimmer has to have both hands on the wall at the same time at some point during the turn. As it is, you can always find that the hands did not touch simultaneously if you look with fine enough time resolution.

This is what we call a "brush touch" - where both hands touch the wall at the same time, but one hand rapidly retracts prior to the open turn. This doesn't mean that the touch is "non-simultaneous." It just means that the swimmer touched so quickly that by the time you look at the touch, one hand has already begun to move away from the wall. If an official cannot view the actual "touch" at the wall, the benefit of the doubt must go to the swimmer. If I were the Deck Ref./Chief Judge, I would reverse the disqualification.

Very unfair on Lilly. Looking at it frame by frame she clearly touches with two hands in one of the frames. Sure, it’s slightly unconventional, but shame on the judges for not reviewing this closely in video.

DQ calls should only be for obvious or flagrant violations. Anything borderline should result in a warning, at most.

Honestly this looks ok/grey, this video is poor quality, perhaps if anything her shoulder go off square. But I doubt, id say give the swimmer the benefit of the doubt.

ISL should adopt F1's rules' mindset by adding, perhaps, 0.5s to the result, instead of DQ... it's just a BS call to steal the championship...
