Hydrogen has been of interest to engineers and scientists for long. It was produced through process of electrolysis. Process of electrolysis is not feasible as it requires more energy as input than it provides as output. Dependency on natural gas or fossil fuel to produce it was another reason that discouraged engineers to use it as fuel in EVs. Presently, it has become possible to produce hydrogen by using renewable sources of energy. It is termed as 'green' hydrogen. Hydrogen acts as an alternate source of electricity for EVs. It replaces chargeable battery and, therefore, charging requirements. Fuel cell is the device that uses hydrogen to produce electricity. This lecture takes up detailed discussion on use of hydrogen as fuel and fuel cells. It also takes up safety aspects of these vehicles. Smart cars have also been talked about in lecture, in brief.
