The Stephen Sondheim song 'Anyone can whistle' was know to me solely from the Cleo Laine recording until I discovered it on organist Simon Gledhill's album 'Up, up and away'. Since recording my version I've also realised that there's a clip of it on the Paramount Organ Works website with Simon playing the Paramount 450.

The story of the Show from which this title song comes is fascinating, having been announced in the New York Times in October 1961 with an opening planned for late 1962. However, no further mention of it appeared until mid 1963 by which time it was apparent that they were experiencing production difficulties. The show finally opened in April 1964 but closed after just 9 performances following unflattering reviews.

The show and it's associated music enjoyed a cult revival after a staged concert version was performed at Carnegie Hall in April 1995.

This version is performed on my virtual organ console using Hauptwerk organ software and the Paramount Organ Works 341 Wurlitzer sounds.
