Nissan Stagea compound turbo

Something a little different we spotted at the track was this Nissan Stagea by Havoc Fabrication. The stock internal RB25 six is boosted by a custom compound Garrett turbo setup. The car is now RWD only thanks to a T400 gearbox conversion. Future plans include fitting a forged engine and a boost increase.

Is it me, or is anyone else impressed with how quiet this car is at the speed it's capable of. I always enjoy the sounds of performance cars, but I love the thought of being able to have an proper rapid car that hardly draws any attention in the daily commute. Then if you're rippin it onto the motorway no coppers are alerted thinking a teenager with a massive ebay exhaust has just flown by.

wow a compound rb that is something new, and holly hell 5000rpm stall! wonder how the toyota sc14 blower setup performed before. Regardless thats a cool setup and props to the guy for having the balls to go down that path, seems like a cool dude

10 second bracket on dead stock internals is very impressive.

I think its more to sequential turbo than a compound by how it works. By bypassing the air from the turbo on high rpm means the big turbo do all the coppressing ratio from atmosphere.
A compound means the presured air from the bigger turbo is compressed even more by the second turbo, just like how turbojet engine works.

In a true compound setup, you will not want to drop the primary turbo entirely or else you will end up with a sequential setup. One thing you can do to a smaller turbi like Shane T did was, he control each of a single turbo with a waste gate that limit said their “duty-cycle”. You will always want to keep the the absolute pressure keep on multiplying until it reaches a designated pressure ratio.

love seeing something different like this, really cool

its better off to think of this as a dual stage turbo setup as the tinny one just gets the big one going then its cut out of the hot and cold sides to act as a single big turbo

Great build & feature, can't wait to read all of the comments though. I'm predicting some gold from YT professionals

Really impressive with this stagea, barely touched...

this is sequential not compound, compound is effective on lower revving high boost applications (diesel) on a diesel the small turbo doesn't get over worked and isn't a restriction! but on a petrol car with higher revs you have to plumb around the small turbo as it will become a restriction. nice build by the way

totally misses the point a compound turbo ??

If you have valves to bypass the small turbo it a compound setup or would it be more a sequential setup?

would love to know/see more about this setup

That's a well engineered compound setup and you know it took some math to work out pressure drops etc to make it work the way it does.
Win for a petrol compound

Id supercharge that compound setup. wld be BEAST

What's the point in going compound if you only want 25psi? One decent turbo will be more efficient at that level, or even a sequential twin may be better.
And is it even compound if one turbo is being shut out? The whole point of compound is highly elevated boost pressures. This looks very cool but feels gimmicky.
Feel free to explain to me if I've misunderstood.
