HOVERCRAFT BOWLING - Hard Science

Показать описание
We are tired of not having hovercrafts. It's time we all have hovercrafts. Anthony and Tara build a couple for about $150 out of plywood and leaf blowers and then put the DIY monstrosities through the standard scientific tests: you know, human bowling, horse mask racing. Standard lab stuff.
Materials and overall cost: ~$100+
• Tarp: $20
• Wood: $20
• Leaf Blower $75
About Hovercrafts
"Hovercraft use blowers to produce a large volume of air below the hull that is slightly above atmospheric pressure. The pressure difference between the higher pressure air below the hull and lower pressure ambient air above it produces lift, which causes the hull to float above the running surface."
About British Inventor and Engineer Christopher Sydney Cockerell
He began experimenting with vacuum cleaner tubes and empty aluminum cans and found that when placing a small can inside a larger one and blowing air through the smaller can, it hovered above the bottom surface of the larger object. By 1955 he had a working prototype and pursued a patent on his creation, which he dubbed a 'hovercraft.'"
Christopher Cockerell and the Hovercraft
"the purchase of a marina inspired this engineer to build something that's not quite a boat, and not quite a plane -- but certainly the Stuff of Genius."
Join Anthony Carboni and Tara Long as they turn the world around them into a giant science experiment. New episodes every Wednesday!
