HOVERCRAFT BOWLING - Hard Science

Показать описание

We are tired of not having hovercrafts. It's time we all have hovercrafts. Anthony and Tara build a couple for about $150 out of plywood and leaf blowers and then put the DIY monstrosities through the standard scientific tests: you know, human bowling, horse mask racing. Standard lab stuff.

Materials and overall cost: ~$100+
• Tarp: $20
• Wood: $20
• Leaf Blower $75

About Hovercrafts
"Hovercraft use blowers to produce a large volume of air below the hull that is slightly above atmospheric pressure. The pressure difference between the higher pressure air below the hull and lower pressure ambient air above it produces lift, which causes the hull to float above the running surface."

About British Inventor and Engineer Christopher Sydney Cockerell
He began experimenting with vacuum cleaner tubes and empty aluminum cans and found that when placing a small can inside a larger one and blowing air through the smaller can, it hovered above the bottom surface of the larger object. By 1955 he had a working prototype and pursued a patent on his creation, which he dubbed a 'hovercraft.'"

Christopher Cockerell and the Hovercraft
"the purchase of a marina inspired this engineer to build something that's not quite a boat, and not quite a plane -- but certainly the Stuff of Genius."

Join Anthony Carboni and Tara Long as they turn the world around them into a giant science experiment. New episodes every Wednesday!

I absolutely love this. As if I wasn't a big enough fan of Anthony and Tara's work, this is just superb.

Haha! That was rather amazing. As a Brit who has yet to create a hovercraft, I can't wait to have everyone call me Sir. Cheers Tara, for the recommendation!

This is an AMAZING premise for a show. One suggestion: make it longer. Tell us plans, show us the building process, give us more history/science. Great start!

I like the cast, the idea, the science and the humor in this video but I want to see projects that actually work. Keep up the videos.

I like the build and the spirit of the whole thing. I think a little more talking about the process and the science would have been nice. This could be a fun educational series I could watch with my daughter and give us projects to do.

This is a great lil channel and idea. Love you both. My only wish is that we maybe get some longer content? I know its the thing to cater to the short attention spans of people on the internet...and I know its tough to do all the editing and such.. but what do I know.. I am the same way with rev 3 games, I like when the videos are longer and the discussions more in depth. Just something to consider? though I am probably sure these episodes are made short on purpose for various reasons.. and its silly to cater to one dude on the internet asking for more more more... but.. come it'll be fun.

In my Auto CAD class I took in highschool we actually made these! Except mine actually floated on water with me. Although mine also had a much great surface area and used 2 blowers rather than 1. it was really cool too because we even added a steering mechanism. Kudos on this. It was a fun watch.
