Uber launches driverless taxis

The taxi service Uber has introduced a fleet of self-driving cars in the US city of Pittsburgh.

As part of a pilot programme, select Uber customers are eligible to use the robot cars.

Al Jazeera’s Shihab Rattansi reports from the launch in Pittsburgh.

It automatic checkouts are slower for you then you're using them wrong. I think this is a sensible venture.

Autonomous cars won't be worse than the current product :P They will drive so much better than humans it won't make any sense to have a driver. And automatic cashiers work soooo much faster than humans! I just scan the wares myself while i'm shopping, bag it while i'm doing so and the only thing i'm actually doing at the cashier is swiping my card. Much faster!

Of course... Did they forget about the last crash of aTesla driver. The technology is too young. Don't risk your life by giving it to a computer.

technology used in the supermarkets cant cause death in situation of an error but theses cars will kill people and damage public property.mayb in a 100 years when people wont walk on roads will I use automated cars but untill then I am good with a human, thanku.and there is so much unemployment in the world already, y r u rendering so many others into unemployment.we should find ways for generating more employment rather then cutting down on employees.
