Soooo…they can't just employ a few people living off island to take care of the cats? If it's a 30 minute ferry, plenty of people commute far longer than that to get to word and since this place is not only world renowned but at this point it's practically a Japanese National Park. National Parks have people working there. Pretty sure all the cats really need is food and occasional medical care. Maybe water source. That they can drink from at will.

Doesn't really make sense to me to just abandon a decent tourist spot just because the old people living there can't feed the cats for free for you, Japan.

Another fun fact: an old man (around 98) died on this island, but the thing is that before that he used to make blogs daily at the end of his life to say how it was, got written into a book, i don't remember the name but definitely worth readibg

I get it. Having a free breeding, predatorless space was going to result in more cats than people to takw care of them. Spay/neutering also prevent cancers of the testicles and uterus on cats. They are healthier and calmer, a good way to try and ride out the last generation. Unsustainable things simply cannot last forever even if they made really good photos and videos, it's more important that theyre healthy and the ones thst are left living their best life.

My job currently is caring for unadopted senior cats as well as ferals, so this would be my dream island. To be able to live there and care for so many cats who deserve love, that would be heaven to me. I hope they find someone to move in on the island to help care for them. If I had money I'd love to be able to do something like that!
