Machine Head
Smoke on the water
In general, “Mark” or “Mk” – plus a roman number added ascending - stands for the many different line ups of Deep Purple and therefore also for the bands numerous periods in time.
The fan classic Mk II even had some reunions over time:
Ian Paice – Ritchie Blackmore – Jon Lord – Ian Gillan - Roger Glover
Come taste the Band: The final album before the Band took a long hiatus - until 1984s return of the Mk II line-up . Recorded by the very short-lived Mk IV with Tommy Brolin on guitar.
In my opinion Brolin made a solid debut in the Band here, even though some don’t think it is a “real” Deep Purple album.
I had a long discussion with myself to put this one either on No. 4 or 3 – call the outcome a roll of the dice if you want.
Burn: Personally, I find the cover art very lame – but musically this one is really solid hard rock. The 6 minute title track alone is worth the buy : ) Of course Ian Gillan refuses to sing this song live…
Still some may call Mk III not really Deep Purple, I consider this album amog the Bands Top 5 – but we will see this later in another video ; )
Machine Head: Who would not have guessed it or even demanded this one as the No. 1 album out of this era…??
Well, there is just no way around this album, even it is anything but a surprise or maybe call it lame to rank it as the top of the bill if you like : )
All the stories about their recording sessions are told many times.
Thank you Frank Zappa ; )
