Haval Jolion and Chery Omoda 5 are competing in the same small SUV market in Australia and across multiple other countries, and for a good reason - both cars are reasonably priced and packed with more features than you'd ever get from a Japanese or European car within the similar price range.

So which car is better for you? Jolion or Omoda? Both vehicles are definitely competing for the title of the best small SUV in Australia in 2023, but which one is objectively better than the other?

In South Africa there was initially an issue with Driver Assistance systems on Omoda switching back on when the car is switched off or restarted. There is a software release which has fixed this and those systems can now be switched off (and will stay off) as per drivers preference. The software upgrade also has toned down what was considered an oversensitive lane keep assist function.

The South African version is a 115kw 230nm version and a GT version with 145kw and 290nm has recently been launched. The GT also has a 7DCT box vs the C5 which has a 9CVT box.

It'd be interesting to compare the omoda to the jolion s (basically a jolion with a better suspension and a different turbo with better tuning for 25kw more power and a lot more torque)

No point doing comparisons with the Omoda. Looks like a clown car from the front. Probably the next generation will tone it down and it will be half decent.
Love the tyre test. Maybe they should use a traffic island for a real world test for us oldies.
Even so it would be the Haval for me.
