New UMC bishop says: "Healing is what we need." No, Jesus & a return to sound biblical doctrine is what ya'll need.

Our church exited UMC March 2023. Have kept with Wesley, Methodist tradition. Our membership has since doubled, God has blessed us!

40 years ago when I was in the MYF, even I could see there was a problem. When the bishop would come and speak and the laity would report back about Annual Conference, it was clear there was two churches. The conservative local congregations and the leftist activists in charge at 475 Riverside Drive…

Our church leaders were having a discussion about how we would navigate the upcoming split as early as 2017. I knew that if Traditionalist plans didn't prevail, I would either leave the UMC with my congregation or just my family. The pandemic may have complicated and delayed the process, but it did not cause the split or make it deeper. The Progressives lost the 2019 vote, but refused to leave, refused to comply with the UMC's Book of Disciple and refused to stop pushing the Progressive issues. At that point, we knew we Traditionalists had to leave to get our focus back on ministry.

The UMC did fight to prevent some churches from leaving. We got out fast because we realized it would be easier in the early phase of the process. There were four UMC's in our community. Three left quickly with little opposition. The UMC fought hard for the last church left and managed to hold it with the vote falling 3% short. There were a couple of churches in our conference that voted to leave with a narrow margin, but found their departure blocked by the Annual Conference, which had to give approval. The UMC wanted to retain at least one church in every community. We are now quite happy to be in the GMC.

As you say, the churches that want to leave can’t afford it. The bishop isn’t being truthful. The denomination is reaping what it has sown for decades.
