I'm absolutely 100% beginner. I have already watched this video over 10 times and my drawing skill improved. Thank you 3000.

Cartooning allows so much flexibility. Also, quicker gratification. Expression gives them life. Cartooning was my first real exposure to a more disciplined form of art. In the sixties, when I became a teenager, my parents got me a comprehensive book on cartooning. I've been happy ever since.

Mind: looks easy.
Hand: I can't even draw a circle :(

As way of encouragement to those who feel like they can't draw a proper circle:

The funny thing about mastering circles for me tends to be to include them in my warm up repetitions, before I get started with any other practice or projects.
So - I'll just keep making a circle in one spot, without lifting my pen or pencil, until it starts to actually look circle-shaped.
It'll be scribbles, but it will be pleasingly round after about 5 or 15 passes.

Then I move over and do it again, but this time, it tends to take fewer repetitions.

After enough of these, in a row, my arm seems warmed up to the idea of being comfortable with drawing circles
and then it's less of a worry to get them right in whatever I'm working on.
They still might not be perfect, but they WILL be better.

It usually takes me about 15 minutes to do "warm-ups".
This is several different repetitions, including circles and curves.
(your time might be more or less than this - whatever works for you)

Doing warm-ups also seems to help me relax in general.
And reducing stress is something we all can use these days.

Hope that helps! :-)

I’ve always felt like I was artistic and could be good at drawing but never knew how. I’ve tried following lots and lots of tutorials and they sort of work but I can’t ever put my own spin on them. And with this video...I’ve made 7 of my own characters. Great tutorial!

why was this 20 minute video more helpful than my whole year of illustration at uni lol

I am only on minute 14 and I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for this tutorial. This is the first time I have been able to draw a decent face that doesn’t look half chewed by an alien drawing-eater. My drawing looks cartoonish ON PURPOSE and I love it. I love you. I’ll keep watching the video. And the rest. You are my savior. You voice is soothing and professional. i am so happy right now.

I think I learned more from 24 minutes with you than 24 HOURS worth of Udemy "How to draw characters" videos. Absolutely amazing, please keep up the great work!

You should seriously publish a book with all these cartooning guides. Your method of teaching is so easy to understand. I would buy it in a heartbeat!

What an amazing tutorial. I normally draw realism so I understand regular proportions. It's much harder to wrap my head around cartoony proportions (and it actually look good). This has helped so much. Thank you.

I both love and hate how easy and effortless you make this look! Also love that it crapped all over my art teacher's lectures on how you are "supposed" to draw.

a few hours ago I tried to follow along and got really frustrated and put it down, but I didn't want to give up, tried again now and I was able to do it!
that gave me a confidence boost after days of not doing any progress
love your way of explaining, really great video.
Gonna go through the playlist day by day. SUBSCRIBED

BeeJay! Thank you my man. I've been drawing all of my life on my own. As much as I love it it's hard because I don't have a formula. The way you just gave that lesson has changed my life. It made so much sense. I have a tool now that I needed so desperately. Thank you!

Exactly what you said you were aiming to achieve with this vid👌
I've never commented on anything, ever, but I felt it necessary in your case so you know you've helped at least one amateur artist instantly improve his ability. Thankyou for the series, cannot wait to watch the rest, awesome!
