I'm a correctional officer here in Arizona, what he says is spot on. Ask questions while you're in the academy and you'll be just fine. Your learning doesn't end in classes, it continues every single day on your daily duties. God bless all those in law enforcement!

If you’re going to be in the NYPD or LAPD, be in the best possible shape and study study study. These other police depts out there across America, their standards aren’t that high. Ive come across PLENTY of police officers who sometimes you wonder how a yahoo like that ever passed. Believe me.

If you haven't already, start working out immediately, and keep it up regularly, if not daily. You do NOT want to show up out of shape because guaranteed they are going to smoke you. Especially if your academy is in-house, and not something you paid for at a community college.

Also, it would really help if you have some idea of what the revelent laws are, and know how to look it up. In the US anyway, learn how to look up federal laws, state laws especially, and city ordinances. All police officers have some kind of cheat sheet system or booklets at some point, and you can ask around what legal textbooks they will use in your region and study those in advance. If you are hardcore about it that is.

Also, see if you can't get your hands on the relevant 10 codes list, and start memorizing those in advance. I admit not everyone does this in advance, but just know they are going to make you do it regardless, so you might as well get a head start, and look super squared away.

Throw in a bit of defensive driving and firearms training, and you will be good to go.

Physical training is the key. If your in the academy your already book smart. U gotta do push ups, squats and run everyday with a 40lb weighted vest. Start small and then gradually work your way up. If u go hard right off the bat, your gonna hurt yourself. BUT.. U Gotta wake up early and do this daily and dedicate yourself to a routine. May God bless you all for keeping us safe!

Stay also in good shape, workout alot, stay away from after class parties. When filed training starts have faith in yourself. Alway think that you are by yourself and you don't have FTO riding next to you.

That's when you can start going on patrol. Show the kids how you go on patrol. Tell them about going on patrol. Have you gone on patrol yet today? How was your patrol? Are you back from patrol? I bet you're excited about going on patrol tomorrow. Can we get an update on your recent patrol? Be safe out there on patrol. Always praying for you especially when you're out on patrol.
