Your heart is kind. I can’t imagine the temps with no AC. I would be calling someone and coming over. Glad that you got electricity and water. Whew. Keep being you. You are 👍🏼

Wise words indeed, Robbie! Let’s be present in our gardens and let’s not compare! Thank you for that message!

You are so right Robbie about not comparing our gardens or “anything”to others. It will steal your joy. It’s been happening with me for years., but not about comparing my garden (because I think it’s pretty awesome 😊) but comparing our lives with others living their dreams relocating/retiring where they had always wanted to live or having their families or kids still close by. The hubs & I are young 70 yr olds, stuck in a location we never intended on staying this long (a job brought us here 25 yrs ago). It’s only been 3 years right before covid that we retired but because of the housing market now being out of whack & to have what we have in the location that we long for (& believe me we are just average folks) has now become unaffordable. (Quite sure we aren’t the only ones.) Plus, all our grown daughters are scattered all over the U.S. with no other family living. Anyway, I put most of my energy & feelings into making a beautiful garden but in the end, hubs & I are still left living where there seems to have no reason anymore on & no family close by (like all my friends seem to have.) What’s the old saying “be happy with what you’ve got?” I’ve been trying for a long time. 😁 “keep on swimming” lol😊

Have you ever thought of a generator. Our powers goes off often here on the central coast especially in the winter. For me a generator is a must . I can’t use my water or worry about what’s in my freezer.

Robbie i myself wake up to see what your new headline wil read i honestly love your garden BECAUSE its real with aphids, cobwebs, and
hungry birds that eat your seedlings, (my garden birds ate all my zinnia seedlings and i went ahead and started new ones they look so pretty its ok if you take a day or two off and rest if my garden was any success at all its because visiting your garden gave me the will to. As for the dahlias i tried staking some up but the ones that took FOREVER to pop up those well ....became ground dahlias as yours i am in Hollister and my first dahlia flower showed on June 17!

If its any consolation, i think you do a wonderful job showing the not so pretty, real side of gardening. It is definitely noticed and appreciated. Social media is such a great place for inspiration but it can definitely become an easy way to make yourself feel inferior. I do hope you get cooler weather and get to feeling better!

I'm glad I found your channel. I live in a brutally hot area also and I've been comparing my burned up garden with lovely English gardens, haha. You can't compare apples to oranges.

If you can let go of feelings of shame, not being "enough, " and any other self-conscious thoughts, looking at what others are doing can be a great learning tool.

Making that mind shift is a tough battle though!

Keep doing you Robbie!

That's what I love about your channel, you keep it real. You aren't afraid to show the failures. I once said I ask God to let me live long enough to have my whole yard looking good at the same time. If He does I'll live forever because it will never be perfect.😃

Sprayed powdery mildew this year with a solution of milk, baking soda and dawn dish soap with water. It worked fast and better than any purchased spray I’ve tried! Amazing!

We all have a bit of garden envy; your property is so beautiful and I sort of live vicariously in your backyard. I lived in California for 72 years and I had amazing gardens, my husband had an unbelievable vegetable garden and we loved it. I moved to the beautiful state of Tennessee and I love it- but my property is limestone and clay and i can’t garden like I hoped to.
But it’s ok, I garden in raised beds and pots and have a huge meadow of grass 🤷🏼‍♀️.
Your hard work paid off and you should be proud.

Such wise words truly appreciated, i have a love hate relationship with white caterpillar moth, snails, ants, dogs suckers, heavy compact clay soil so i will try not to compare myself to othersas i don't want to rob myslef of the joy i do have in my garden 💜 thanks again xx

Hey Robbie…. I had a little chuckle at the start of your video. This will make you laugh, is that your alternate mode of transport next to your front door 🤣😂🌸💖 xx lots of hugs from australia, Letty

Thank you. The comparing thing is exhausting. I’m keeping my head down, working project-by-project. If I get sick of weeding, I switch to mulching, or another task.

I think the comparison problem is worsened because a lot of people are struggling financially. I’m finding I’m shifting my content views from channels that spend money on things I wish I had but can’t afford to DIY, propagation, things that I can copy on a budget. Just something to think about while making content.
